Hundreds of toys, books and gift cards were donated to Securing Emergency Resources Through Volunteer Efforts Inc. and Northern Virginia Family Service at the annual Cuisine de Commerce Luncheon organized by the Prince William County-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce.
The event took place at the Heritage Hunt Golf & Country Club on Tuesday.
Donations were accepted at the luncheon on behalf of SERVE by Site Director Veronica Roth. Throughout the years, thousands of local children have received gifts thanks to the generosity of those attending the luncheon.
The luncheon is the chamber’s annual “taste of Prince William.” This year, 26 member restaurants, caterers, banquet facilities and specialty shops offered samples of their cuisine.
Those attending were treated to items ranging from crabcakes to pasta to pumpkin pie.
“The food was soooooo good … I picked up all of the exhibitors’ cards as we are often in need of catering service. That was a great opportunity for us to see who is out there that we didn’t know about,” said Susan Plattner, Prince William County/ Manassas Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The luncheon was sponsored by Cardinal Bank, the first Agnes L. Colgan Community Service Award sponsor. A portion of the luncheon will benefit the chamber’s two annual $1,000 Agnes L. Colgan (formerly Shelly Krasnow) Community Service Awards. The name of the award was changed last May to honor local philanthropist Agnes L. Colgan, the late wife of Sen. Charles J. Colgan, D-Manassas.
For those who forgot to bring a donation, Chamber member Bookworm Central was on hand selling children’s books. The company matched every book sold at the event with another donation of equal or greater value to SERVE Inc.
Upcoming events include New Member Showcase on Dec. 4, Holiday Silent Auction Luncheon on Dec. 8 and Holiday Open House on Dec. 17.
