The Manassas Museum System is looking for a new curator.
Roxana J. Adams, who filled the position since 2002 has retired, sold her home in Manassas and moved to Newark, Del.
The duties of the position include managing historical and archaeological collections, archives and special library; permanent and changing exhibitions; grant writing; working with volunteers; and overlooking historic properties.
"I was born and raised on Cape Cod, and my family has always been involved in fishing and boating. My husband and I are working on restoring a boat, which we plan to sail to the Caribbean," Adams said.
Adams said she enjoyed her work at the museum.
"It was a great experience for me. It was great opportunity working with the volunteers and staff who really care about the history of Manassas," she said.
The 64-year-old retiree said "going out on the ocean will be a new venture for me, but I feel very comfortable with the transition. I've also always liked to fish."
Adams' retirement took place Aug. 5, and her position has been posted.
In the meantime, Lisa Sievel-Otten, historic interpreter, and Rachel Frederick, collections intern, are working on some interim exhibits.
Before coming to Manassas, Adams was assistant director of the American Association of Museums in Washington.
