"Good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judg-ment."
-- Barry LePatner
How suddenly things have changed. Former Danity Kane member D. Woods recently revealed she plans to move forward with her career and does not see a future DK reunion.
Many of us witnessed Diddy shut down the group on the finale of "Making the Band 3" last season, and may also remember D. Woods high-tailing it out the door. Following the tumultuous break-up, many of the girls have made it quite clear they don't plan on getting back together with each other or Diddy.
I find this interesting because these were the same ladies who were willing to walk through fire to be given a shot at living their dreams. Now, after getting their shot and experiencing some meas-urable success as a group, most of them have decided to take their careers elsewhere.
Maybe this is just another example of human nature; the ol' forget-where-you-came-from mantra or maybe the ladies of Danity Kane were given superstardom a little too easily. Whatever the case, D, Aubrey, Shannon, Dawn and Aundrea better recognize their success lies in each other…and quickly!
FUNK FLEX GETS FLEXED ON
Popular DJ and radio personality Funk Master Flex of New York's Hot 97 seems to be eating crow after a tirade he pushed on listeners last week. Following some disappointment in an Interscope Records executive named Nino Cuccinello, Flex declared the radio station would no longer play music created by Interscope artists.
"I'm so sorry this is the way this has to go down .... I want us all to be friends, but Nino is not a friend of ours," said Flex.
I feel Flex; it is a forgone conclusion that the type of "hip hop" selected to be played on the radio is killing the culture. What I don't understand is who does he think he is?
Earlier this week, Hot 97 Program Director Ebro Darden told the New York Daily News, "We've never held back on a whole label's music, and we won't. We've got good relationships with labels…We had to muzzle Flex…People know a lot of what he says is showmanship, but that went too far."
Flex is another one of those guys that at times get ahead of themselves when opening their mouths and this was another classic example of such. He really thought he had the clout to boy-cott an entire label's music. He was probably dropping his signature bombs while making the announcement, too. Oh well, now that he's been put back in his place, we'll see where his "movement" goes from here. Bomb!
RICK ROSS CHALLENGES EMINEM
They say there's a slim line between genius and insanity. I think Ricky Ross just fell into the latter. Ross, who is declaring himself victorious in his ongoing feud with 50 Cent, is now looking to go at Eminem. While speaking to MTV, Ross stated "I think [Eminem] is a bigger and better artist than what Curly (50 Cent) is. So if I was looking to fulfill that excitement or that rush, that's who I have to address."
In an apparent attempt to corner Em, Ross went on to mention that if the two emcees do not bat-tle, then he would like to be a part of Eminem's upcoming album "Relapse."
"I'm trying to be a part of that ('Relapse')," says Ricky. "It's either way. We gonna see each other one way or another."
The man is clearly feeling himself a little too much, but I'm not so sure we can say he won his battle against 50. I am surprised he has come out of the drama with his beard intact, but there was still a lot of damage done to his image. His latest album, "Deeper than Rap" sold a solid 150,000 copies in its first week, however, I predict the numbers will decline.
I'm a little blurry on this one, so let me know what you think. Has Rick Ross defeated 50 Cent?
'Til next week, Peace!!!
P.S. Rest in Peace to Bea Arthur of the "Golden Girls" -- a classy actress who was apart of a classic show.
