Nothing says Christmas more than a cat getting zapped by a strand of lights and a decorated house that could light up an entire city.
Don't get us wrong. We still choke up throughout "It's A Wonderful Life," especially when another angel gets his wings, and the biggest miracle in "Miracle On 34th Street" is how believable Edmund Gwenn is in convincing us that he is indeed Kris Kringle.
We all had that must-have gift, but it's hard to match Ralphie's desire for the Red Ryder BB gun in "A Christmas Story."
These classics will always hold a special place as Christmas draws near, but there's something about a tipsy Santa and a stranded precocious boy fighting off a pair of hapless criminals that truly ignites our holiday spirit.
So as we prepare for Rudolph, Frosty, Charlie Brown and the umpteenth telecast of Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey, we'll be on the lookout for these classics that -- while nontraditional and not exactly your standard sappy fare -- still manage to touch our hearts.
Or we'll just dive into our DVD collection.
