Ya Heard: Crazy turn of events

"It is easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive a friend."

-- William Blake (1757 - 1827)

What a crazy week right? Just as the world was preparing to say its goodbyes to Michael Jackson, former NFL star Steve McNair was found dead in Nashville, Tenn. In addition, while America was celebrating its 233rd year of independence, Sarah Palin declared independence from her role as Alaska's governor. Palin's announcement seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle, so let's start there.

PALIN MOVES ON

Last year's Republican vice presidential nominee announced her resignation as governor effective Aug. 1, and the country is mourning this monumental loss. OK, maybe that's a drastic overstatement, but I do find it a little curious as to why an individual who was ready to be vice president for at least four years only eight months ago, has now decided she can't continue to govern Alaska.

Palin said she wanted to answer a "higher calling" to unite the country "along conservative lines." To me, all of this leads to one word … PAY DAY! Maybe Palin finally realized there is more money to make out of office. Let's be truthful here, how many of you were actually thinking about politics when watching her campaign? America (or maybe just its men) is obsessed with finding what lies behind those stylish frames and designer suits.

Let's just hope bikini calendars do not become the norm for her…

A LESSON FROM MCNAIR

The death of Steve McNair was definitely another unexpected loss. I couldn't believe the words I was reading as the text messages began pouring in last weekend.

Real talk: We heard the 36-year-old, black former NFL star was shot to death and some of our minds immediately envisioned a nightclub, thugs and alcohol as the possible backdrop. On second thought, it probably occurred to you McNair didn't fit the profile of the kind of guy who would end up in those circumstances. As you learned he was found dead along with a 20-year-old woman, a light bulb went off.

"Could? Did she? Wasn't he…?"-- all of the questions and skepticism flowed, and it appears as if McNair was killed by his mistress, who also took her own life. If that turns out be what actually happened…WAKE UP CALL!

Unfortunately, these days a large portion of our culture finds it almost cool to sneak, cheat and creep on our significant others.

In this case, McNair was married with four children. Some reports are saying McNair's mistress was under the impression he would divorce his wife and marry her. Fellas, you know some of you have done, or, are doing something similar. And I'm not going to limit this to the fellas only; the ladies exhibit this type of behavior also. The obvious lesson here is cheating has serious consequences.

I can't begin to imagine the pain Mrs. McNair feels in never being able to hear her husband explain his actions.
