The Prince William Model Railroad Club (PWMRC) is having its monthly Open House on Saturday at the Quantico VRE Depot. PWMRC is a non-profit organization dedicated to the history of RR’s, fellowship and fun of model trains for young and old, education and hands-on hobby training and the promotion of railroad safety awareness.

There will be a 600 sq. ft. of HO scale Model Train layout at the open house.

As always, Thomas the Tank models will be available for kids to run. The open house runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Go to http://www.pwmrc.org for directions.  There will be free parking for this free and family-friendly occasion. Children and adults are allowed to play engineer and drive the model trains. There will be members of the club present to answer questions. For more info, interested persons may contact us at or call me at 703-878-6639.

Project Mend-A-House

Would you like to be a compassionate neighbor by donating new or gently used building materials and supplies, durable medical equipment and/or large tents to Project Mend-A-House’s most popular and effective fundraiser — its Ninth Annual Builders’ Yard Sale? The Builders’ Yard Sale will be held rain or shine on June 6 from 8 a.m.to 2 p.m. at the Prince William County Landfill.

Project Mend-A-House accepts new and gently used cabinets, flooring, trim, lighting fixtures, kitchen and bathroom sinks, furniture, appliances, shutters, windows and doors, pavers, etc. It also accepts durable medical equipment.

Can you donate your tent for the day? Can you set it up and tear it down? Tents are needed to protect items as well as offer volunteers and shoppers relief from the weather. Volunteers are also needed to help set up for the sale on June 5 from 8:30 a.m. to noon and on the day of the actual sale. Your time, talent and treasure are 100 percent tax-deductible and would be greatly appreciated.  To volunteer, donate items or offer a tent for the day, please contact the Project Mend-A-House office at 703-792-7663 or e-mail .
