Do you remember?

I’m back! The wrist is almost healed. The cast is history and I don’t miss it one bit. Six weeks ago, I slipped on a muddy driveway that was like ice. I broke my wrist in two places. I wore a shocking pink cast until this past Monday. Now, I’m only saddled with a removable wrist brace. Not so bad! I’m on the mend and I can now type so be prepared for a mouthful. I’ve been saving up. Thank you so much for enduring writings from my archives.
And speaking of oldies, do you remember your senior prom? I remember mine as if it were yesterday. I graduated from George Washington High School in Alexandria in 1955. I wore a pink chiffon formal with a hoop underneath and had an orchid corsage. My date, like in the song, wore a white sport coat. We danced the night away and had not a care in the world. We were so much in love with love itself and the music provided the backdrop.
At that time, there was a Hot Shoppe (remember them?) at the Washington National Airport. Our senior proms were hosted by the Hot Shoppe. Can you believe that? That airport is so busy now, you can’t get near it and if the traffic doesn’t stop you, the security will. In 1955, I don’t even remember having a problem parking.
As a matter of fact, when I was younger, my uncle used to drive us over to the airport and park so we could sit in the car and watch the planes land. Those were the days. You couldn’t do that today. Such wonderful memories.
We decided to relive those memories at the Prince William Senior Center at Woodbridge last Friday night. The Friends of Woodbridge Senior Center Inc. hosted a Senior Prom.
Heavenly Shades of Darkness falling, It’s Twilight Time. I love that song. That tune and many, many others were performed by Curt and John. Talking about memories, the music really took me back. I was in a trance. The entertainment was outstanding. This gigantic duo graced us with just about every ’50s hit in the book and some ’60s, too. I could have listened to them all night. Yep, they were that good. They were great. I love the ’50s and ’60s music, don’t you? Curt and John’s music contributed a great deal to the success of the prom. We had one couple there who had attended their original prom in 1953. Same atmosphere, same tunes. Great performers.
Curt and John have just recently put their show together. They said: “They and their wives are good friends and they do the shows because they enjoy it so much. It is gratifying to see people having fun and enjoying our show.”
By the way, Curt and John are available for weddings, reunions, etc. Their fees are very reasonable. You can reach John Byrd & Curt Cochran at Home: 703-680-5101 or e-mail:
. You won’t regret your choice of entertainment. I promise.
