Catharpin man faces litany of charges after traffic stop
Police said a man ignored an officer's request to get out of his truck during a traffic stop. Instead, he put the Ford F-150 back into drive and sped off, striking the officer with the door.
The man was stopped in the area of Rixlew Lane and Ashton Avenue near Manassas just after 10 p.m. on Thursday.
During the traffic stop the officer noticed an open container of alcohol sitting on the console and told the man to get out of the truck, said Prince William police spokeswoman Erika Hernandez.
The officer was not seriously injured and a lookout was broadcast for the truck and driver.
Police learned the truck belonged to 29-year-old Burnard Lee Ours Jr. of 4404 Sanders Lane in Ca-tharpin.
Moments after the truck sped off, an off-duty police officer who was driving his take-home squad car saw the truck turn into the parking lot of Osbourn High School in Old Town Manassas, said Hernandez.
The off-duty officer followed the truck into the lot and saw Ours bail out of his car, said Hernan-dez.
Ours was eventually caught and faces a litany of charges, including attempted malicious wounding of a police officer, resisting arrest, eluding, driving on a revoked driver's license, driving under the influ-ence, reckless driving, possession of bullets by a convicted felon, possessing an open container of alcohol in a vehicle and a noise violation.
Hernandez added that this is Ours' fourth DUI charge in 10 years.
He was held without bond.
Later that same hour, police in Woodbridge charged a Fredericksburg man with driving under the influence of drugs after his car collided with another.
The crash happened in the intersection of U.S. 1 and Woodside Drive.
When officers arrived, they noticed that one of the drivers—24-year-old William Lawrence Stanford II, of 6705 Merritith Way in Fredericksburg—seemed to be intoxicated, said Hernandez.
"A further investigation revealed that the accused was operating his vehicle while under the influ-ence of drugs," said Hernandez.
Stanford was charged with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia, and was held on a $4,000 bond.
He is to be in court Aug. 7.
