Art society to begin season on Sept. 17
The Prince William Art Society will begin its new season on Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Canterbury Woods Community Center in Lake Ridge.

Announcements will be made for up-coming shows, an oil painting workshop and other activities in the society. The public is encouraged to attend and the meetings are free. The group is now selling boxes of holiday note cards that are made from members’ original art. Proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund. For more information, call 703-494-7708.

Hughes to speak at vision support group
Melanie Hughes, mobility teacher for the Virginia Department of the Blind and Vision, will be the guest speaker at a meeting of the Manassas Area Low Vision Support Group on Sept. 15.

She will discuss the pros and cons of guide dogs as well as answer questions about the many services available from the Department for those with significant vision loss.

The group meets the third Monday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Park West Lions Club headquarters, 8620 Sunnygate Drive, Manassas.

Project Mend-A-House’s Taste of the Town set
Project Mend-A-House will host its annual Dinner—A Taste of the Town Prince William County Style on Oct. 15 at the VFW Post 1503, 14631 Minnieville Road, Woodbridge. A $25 donation will allow guests to sample some of the county’s finest cuisine, listen to Trevoche — an Andrew Sisters style musical trio, win a chance for some door prizes and support the seniors, disabled and low-income resident of the county through Project Mend-A-House’s free home repair and home modification program.

Committee of 100 elects new officers
The Prince William Committee of 100 has elected a new slate of officers.

They are President Michele Saggese, Vice President Pete Frisbee, Secretary Trish Redmond, Treasurer Ron Homan, and acting Immediate Past President Keith Scarborough.

Other members of the executive board are Michelle Trenum, program chairman; Nancy Verhs, assistant secretary; Don Scoggins, assistant treasurer; and Deborah Campbell, publicity chairman.

The organization is celebrating 20 years of informative forums and programs.

Yoga Connection to host workshop for runners
The Yoga Connection, 9126 Center St., Manassas, will host a workshop “Yoga Stretches for Runners” on Sept. 28 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

The cost is $30 and all profits will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

NVCC offers certificate program in Web design
The Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College is offering a Web Developer Certificate Program designed for people who want to enter the Web page development field.

The program covers the skills needed to design web pages for personal use, businesses or nonprofit organizations. Students will be exposed to the latest cutting-edge web design software while gaining the skills to create a complete Web site.

“The information technology field requires workers to be certified in their areas of expertise,” said instructor Renee Kesner. “People who complete the Web program will be able to verify they have the appropriate skills for these jobs

Party City to host safe kids program
Party City Woodbridge, 14026 Shoppers Best Way, Woodbridge will be hosting the McGruff Safe Kids Total Identification System Program as part of a campaign to offer free Child Identification Kits to the community.

The child safety and identification program will be conducted on Oct. 4.

Each child safety package includes a full-sized laminated ID card that contains the child’s 10 digital fingerprint images, digital color photo and vital personal information; two wallet-sized laminated ID cards that contain the child’ digital thumbprint, color digital photo and vital personal information; a DNA self-collection kit; a McGruff Jr. crime fighter sticker badge and a McGruff envelope.
