It was wall-to-wall baby boys in the show barn Friday afternoon at the fairgrounds.
The 9- to 18-month-olds came with their parents to compete in the first of four baby contests at the Prince William County Fair.
A few of the babies got a bit antsy waiting for things to get started, but once they were onstage in front of the judges, most of them got interested again.
Krystal Lawhorne—not that she's biased in any way—said she entered her son Trent in the contest for obvi-ous reasons.
"He's adorable," the Nokesville mother said of her 14-month-old son.
Kevin Smith of Nokesville said entering babies in the contests at the fair has become a tradition in his family, so he entered his youngest son, Cash, this year.
"We entered our son the last two years," Smith said of hi
oldest son, who took first and second place in two consecutive years.
They entered Cash this year "for the fun of it," Smith said.
Smith's wife, Cindy, said it would have been a shame to leave Cash out of the mix.
"We're trying to give him a shot at it," Cindy Smith said.
Michelle Redmond was confident for her friend's son David George, calling the 11-month-old a "shoo-in" for the contest.
David's mother, Elizabeth George, said he just enjoyed being outside in the weather that was atypically pleasant for August.
Tammy Jenkins was also reinforcing a family tradition when she entered her son, 13-month-old Dylan Bradley, in the contest.
"I've done it with all my children. It's fun for them," the Nokesville woman said.
The contest for 9- to 18-month-old girls was also held Friday afternoon.
The contest for 19-month to 3-year-old boys will be on Monday at 3 p.m. and the contest for 19-month to 3-year-old girls will be held on 3 p.m. Thursday.
The Potomac News and Manassas Journal Messenger will announce all of the winners at the completion of the contests.

do the right thing: No racial profiling on my part. A black is black. A hispanic name likely indicates Hispanic. How many Hispanic names did you see, and how many black picturews. Racial profiling is regularly used by the county - whether admitted or not. And it certainly is used in resolution enforcement. Wake up and smell what goes on.
PHDEE said,“ Didn ‘t see what appeard to be Hispanic in the pictures. Could we be seeing the results of the Stewart ethnic cleansing resolution and a rebirth of white supremacy? Is this an indication of fear in PWC?
Is PHDEE racially profiling? How can he/she tell who is Hispanic and who is not simply by looking at a picture. I guess ultra liberals possess special powers other mere mortals do not.

PHDEE are you racially profiling the babies in the photo? How can you tell by looking at them they aren’t Hispanic? Or do liberals have special gifts that other mortals don’t have that they can tell someone’s ethnic origin by how they look?
Two full page pictures of babies. Not too many minorities though. I read in the paper that the age 4 and under population is going from minority to majority. Anyone with an explanation of lack of minority participation? Didn ‘t see what appeard to be Hispanic in the pictures. Could we be seeing the results of the Stewart ethnic cleansing resolution and a rebirth of white supremacy? Is this an indication of fear in PWC?
Nancy Pelosi refuses a vote on offshore drilling, Barack on vacation in Hawai and is soft and wishy washy on the Russian invasion in Georgia. Oil has come down due to two factors, the threat of drilling at home and there was never a true supply and demand issue. And John Edwards cheating on his wife who is quite possibly dying from cancer. This is the sad state of affairs that liberal America has created. Not to say Republicans havn’t had there share of sex scandals, but this guy was revered in the Democratic party and preached morality. Hang in there Conservatives the liberals time with the power will be short.
