Prince William Fire and Rescue workers are looking for a 28-year-old man who they believe drowned in Lake Montclair earlier today, fire and rescue officials said.

Rescue personnel have switched from search and rescue to search and recovery mode and are searching for the victim in the area of Lake Montclair behind Spalding Road, said Prince William Fire and Rescue spokesman Randy Earl.

Public safety officials had the dam at Lake Montclair closed to shut down a current that was hindering rescue efforts. Scuba teams are on hand to dive but they haven’t gone into the water because a thunderstorm is approaching the area.

The man and a 44-year-old woman were in a canoe with a dog when the canoe capsized.

The woman was able to swim to shore but the man was a non-swimmer and was not wearing a flotation device.

Police escorted the woman from the accident scene and took her home.

The call for a possible drowning came in at 3:26 p.m.

Our sympathies go out to all his family and friends, we know very well the pain that goes along with such a tradegy.  What are the circumstances of the woman leaving him out there?
RIP Phil

Are they 100% certain the man is dead? The article seems a little too ambiguous. Maybe he is hurt some place and needs help. I send my prayers to the family and if there is anything the community can do to help, we will.

If your prayers go out to the family, you certainly did not come across as being sympathetic with your first comment.  Can you be a little kinder?
