Independence Day parade set for Friday in Dale City
“America the Beautiful” is this year’s theme for the annual Dale City Independence Day Celebration on Friday morning.
The day begins at 10 a.m. with a parade down Dale Boulevard. It starts at the corner of Kirkdale Road and Dale Boulevard and ends in the parking lot behind the Comcast payment center just past the intersection of Dale and Glendale roads.
The two-hour long parade will be comprised of more than 500 vehicles, said Dale City Parade Committee Chairman Ernestine S. Jenkins. State Sen. Charles J. Colgan, D-Manassas, will be serving as the parade’s grand marshal.
Parade participants are encouraged to stick around for the awarding of trophies to the winners, Jenkins said.
At the end of the parade, there will be a Family Fun Day which will feature entertainment, games, displays, crafts and food. A petting zoo will be one of the many highlights for children.
To end the evening, there will be a fireworks show at the conclusion of the Potomac Nationals-Myrtle Beach Pelicans game at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge. The fireworks will begin at dusk after the 6:35 p.m. scheduled game.
