oh yea but i’ll agree with you on the traffic…it has gotten very bad and people do drive a lot crazier than they do in less populated places that aren’t as close to the Capitol.

I am a college student who recently took a media & crime class and one thing we learned is that although all of the crime-focused media makes it look like the crime rate is increasing, its definetly not. When you read the newspaper, it focuses on crime and sad/depressing news stories. If you don’t want to hear them, then don’t read the newspaper.  There is probably only a small amount more crime than there used to be in this area and thats largely in part to a larger population. OF course when you have more ppl, theres gonna be more crime. Technology has made it much easier to get crime stories out there for people to read when in the past, the police blotter was not so readily available for the public to read/see. so you can either sit inside worrying about something that could happen your family, send your kids to catholic school so nothing bad happens to them, and complain about how crime is going up in the area, OR you can prepare them for the real world and educate them on what to do in a bad situations to minimize their chances of getting hurt but you can’t protect them from everything.

Northern Virginia, in general, is the pits.  Worst traffic jams and drivers on the East coast.  And the “me first” attitude around here is something else.  I’ve almost gotten clobbered a few times recently by drivers making U-turns who thought they had the right of way.

If I knew then, what I know NOW, I never would have moved here, I ended up sending my kids to private school after my son was assaulted walking home from the bus stop. This place is really getting bad. If I could afford to move, I would!
