Tax protesters take time out for TEA

By the sound of their applause, the overwhelming majority of the 150 people who came to the Prince William County T.E.A. Party, otherwise known as taxed enough already, are not happy with the direction the state and federal governments are headed.

The multiple speakers who took the microphone at the James J. McCoart Government Center on Saturday galva-nized their belief that the current state of government is not working.

"It took Virginia 390 years to reach a budget of $36 billon, and it took only 10 years to double it. If that doesn't make you upset, I don't know what will," said Ben Marchi, director of the Virginia chapter of Americans for Prosperity.

The Virginia branch of the self-described economic watchdog group was formed in 2005.

Marchi went on to address another concern of many who attended—the cap and trade tax included in the American Clean Energy and Security Act passed recently by the House of Representatives.

The bill imposes a cap on the amount of carbon emissions by U.S. companies nationally. Companies would be given the option of purchasing permits from the government to continue emitting the same amount of Co2, although the federal government is expected to significantly ratchet down the amount of carbon allowed over the next 10 years.

The bill is now headed to the Senate and, if passed, it is expected to generate nearly $9 billion over the next 10 years. This could reduce future budget deficits by $4 billion, according to a letter from the Congressional Budget Office.

But Marchi said the bill isn't a good idea. "There would be a tax levied on everything that we use that requires energy to produce, from soap to toilet paper. That's a tax on every working family. That's a tax on people who don't even work," he said.

Marchi added that companies would undoubtedly pass the cost of the new tax to their customers, increasing the monthly cost of living for the average family by $150 a month.

Health care was on 72-year-old Don Donley's mind when he decided to attend the rally.

The Dale City resident, 72, said he feels threatened that government-controlled health care would limit his ability to get access to the health services he needs. He added the right to own guns has also become a major focus of many Americans.

"If you take our guns away, you are going to see a revolution in this country," he said.

Prince William County was once more recognized as ground zero for the illegal immigration debate by Jack Martin of the Federation of American Immigration Reform.

He said lawmakers in Richmond should pay more attention to the estimated 300,000 illegal aliens working in Vir-ginia.

"They should make all employers verify the work documents of all employees. Every state should be doing that and every state senate should be held responsible for that," said the Washington resident.

It seems you are now changing you lie onm unions REMEMBER;  to be a good liar you have to have a fantastic memory.

Adam don’t worry about the rantings of phdee every paper opinion board has its main kook. We already explained the reasons that the Republican Party was created and to fight slavery was one main reason, as for his/her/its answers on unions we already answered them on July 7 or whatever date has been whined about. In the last few years what has the UAW done for it’s workers, except to conceed on wages, pensions, and benefits. If that is part and parcel what unions are good for then you know what monster keeps phdee fed. Probably has a government job anyway, wouldn’t know it is like to get your fingers dirty anyway. Jopni:

How is your search for your post with the anti-union diatribe coming along? You should be trolling instead of reading other’s nonsense.  What’s the matter?  Afraid of your past posting revealing you are a liar?

And poor Adam - he must have been a revisionist history writer for the old Soviet Union. Republican Party founded on anti-slavery goals.  ha ha ha ha. Check any internet site. You sound agitated and somewhat bitter that someone challenged or questioned your statements. You must be of Southern origin - reminds me of my Southern brothers and sisters.  Staunch Repubs and closet racists.

Phdee,

Good to hear from you.  I empathize with your situation.  I understand it is difficult getting time on those Federal prison general population computers.

Fortunately for you I can translate Stupid, “The Party was foinded to cazter to business” means “The Party was founded to cater to business,“ right?

“Right” as in that is what you are saying, not “right” as it is true.  Obviously by writing this comment you did not pass social studies and thus did not graduate from high school.

joni:  what you really say is that this country WAS founded on slavery and exploitation - which is what I’ve said on multiple postings.

And Adam, you are wrong about the principles on which the Republican Party was founded.  The Party was foinded to cazter to business, financial orgs, with a little toward agriculture. Always for the wealthy. It’s changed today. Racist and evangelical, with a few wealthy hangovers.

joni and zcx:  I’m still waiting for your proof (facts) on unions.  Having any luck joni finding your union post?  I’m sure you both would be happy for me to forget about it.  Sorry…..

Ah yes ZCX is now an expert in union organizations, its obkigations, history, etc.—- just another ignorant post.

I really like the allegation that unions outsource jobs.  In other words, being ignorant and stupid, he says the unions are the management and directors of the business.  What a laugh.

One zcx’s ignoral pla Joni finds her union diatribe, we can all read her union expertise of the auto industry and union problems/actions.

I though it was hilarious ZCX gow your allege unions cut wages and benefits and jobs. And what union(s) wasz this?‘The UAW has had to reduce some benefits due to govt pressure and the Bush economic disaster.  A union bureacracy?  Hardly.  Statistics show there has been a big decline in union membertship, primarily due to busin ess actions to eli inate the middle class, especially under Bush.

Buy votes?  I didn’t know unions ran for political office.  You must be confused with European countriesthat run candidates.  The American union movement is economic, not political.

Waiting for Joni - then more perhaps.

Joni:

System acing up - part of my message “disappeared”.

I suggest that you go back through this website’s postings and find the exact DATE and TOPIC of your posting (the topic was NOT unions - frequently on this site posters get on topics other than those the writer chose).  This way ALL readers can read for themselves what you posted.  Why take my or your versions.  Let’s check the post itself.(I predict we’ll never hear from you.)

While not in your anti-union diatribe,
i’m interested how the CEO’s formed a union? What is the “bargaining unit”
and was an elcection held, and certified by the NLRB?  Your answere should be interesting to say the least.
