Artist Mike Flynn’s watercolor of the Manassas train station just after a rain captured both first place and the “people’s choice” award in the third annual art competition, “Paint! Manassas.”

Second place was a painting of City Square Café by Michele Frantz, and third place went to Maria Briganti for her painting of Weir Alley.

Two honorable mentions were also awarded, one to Briganti for a pastel of the Old Manassas Town Hall and another to Laura Lavarnway for her rendering of Manassas National Battlefield Park.

The awards were selected by artist Lynn Goldstein, a member of the Pastel Society of America, and the “people’s choice” award was chosen by popular ballot.

In the competition, the artists were challenged to create work inspired by Old Town Manassas or the Battlefield. Twenty artists from around the region signed up and were given three weeks to create their works.

Selected works may be viewed through Aug. 14 at the Prince William Office of Economic Development, Suite 105, 10530 Linden Lake Plaza, Manassas. The office is open Monday through Friday during regular business hours.

The event is sponsored by the Manassas Art Guild.
