I’ve received several copies of the children’s book my daughter, Susan, wrote and I’m very excited and proud to have a published author in my family. Susan started the project as part of a children’s program she was initiating in the DAR Cultural Center in Kuwait and it snowballed from there. The first run was done half in English and half in Arabic. She has been surprised to see that people all want it in English. When I’ve visited Kuwait, I found that most people do speak English and it’s taught in all the schools.

Fan Care Program

Project Mend-A-House administers this program, which runs through Sept. 30. For more information, contact Project Mend-A-House at 703-792-7663.

Luncheon, ‘Name That Tune’ and more

The center will hold an exciting patriotic luncheon and program on Wednesday. Following a barbecue chicken luncheon at 12:15 p.m., special entertainment featuring the popular duo “Curt and John” will highlight patriotic music and tunes of the 1950s and ’60s. Curt and John come highly recommended by the Woodbridge Senior Center, where they are a favorite. Special decorations and door prizes will be featured. Sign up for lunch, as is done every day, by 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Make a reservation for the program, with payment of $3, in the office.

Our great center chief, Linda, has decided to spice things up this summer by featuring a quick version of “Name That Tune” each Wednesday, immediately following lunch. She will award prizes for the quickest responses, so make it a priority to join the group for a good meal and lots of fun.

The ever-popular Basic Computer Class is being offered for three consecutive Thursdays beginning next week. The classes will be held in the computer room from 10 a.m. to noon. Due to space limitations, registration is required. A fee of $10 is payable when you register. An intermediate class will be offered in August.

Happy Hoofers

The Happy Hoofers finished their June program by entertaining at the Oaks at Wellington’s monthly birthday party last Thursday. As always, we enjoyed ourselves as much as did the audience. We were especially happy to be invited to enjoy their beautiful birthday cakes and ice cream.

The Manassas Senior Center is at 9320 Mosby St., Manassas. Call 703-792-6405.
