Seniors Manassas: Rain, rain go away

Since I came back from Seattle last week I’ve been “out of it.” I had pneumonia early in May and guess I didn’t really get rid of it. I went to the doctor when I retuned and I have it again, so I’ve been stuck in the house. This damp weather certainly doesn’t help my asthma any. My daughter called me from Seattle last night to see how I’ve been doing. Seattle is still having beautiful sunshiny weather.  I think Mother Nature got the coasts mixed up.

Senior center friend

Congratulations to Justin Bishop, the recipient of this year’s Friends of the Senior Center Grant. Justin will attend Bridgewater College in the fall where he will major in physical education. He was presented with the $1,000 award at the annual Senior Center Picnic last week.  Justin is the grandson of center members Hank and Polly Bishop and the late Janie Madill. He lives in Bristow with his parents, Sharon and Mark Bishop.

Transportation changes

As a result of passage of the 2010 budget by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors on April 28, changes to the transportation program for the center will be effective July 1 of this year
The Agency on Aging is seeking alternative transportation for our members who currently use the transportation services.

Heat emergency program

Prince William County government is again providing its Heat Emergency Program for area seniors.  The Manassas Senior Center, which is open Monday through Friday, will remain open until 8 p.m. to serve area seniors when the outdoor temperature reaches 95 degrees or above.

Positive thinking

Vicki Graham, director of Action in the Community Through Service, is presenting an interesting seminar Wednesday at 11 a.m. The title is “Beach Party: How About That Grain Of Sand In Your Shoe?”
We all have times when something, or someone, is really bugging us and it seems like having that grain of sand or little pebble stuck in your shoe.  Vicki will discuss ways to turn that little irritation into something positive.
