LETTER: What has John Bell really done?

» 9 Comments | Post a Comment

Will the opponents of Del. Bob Marshall please tell us what their Democratic candidate has actually done for our local community as a private citizen rather than continue to make preposterous claims
about Bob Marshall’s transportation record?

They have said NOTHING about their candidate’s record of community service. Why?

Before Bob Marshall was a state legislator he co-founded Citizens for a Trans-County Parkway. He and my wife, Roseleen, were appointed to a Prince William County citizens advisory committee to
evaluate the construction of a new road across the county.

It turned out that the road Bob Marshall, my wife and the citizens committee proposed was eventually accepted by the Board of County Supervisors and by the voters of Prince William at a referendum.

The new road, now called the Prince William Parkway, saved over a hundred homes from destruction, cost many millions less than the original county proposal, took less time to construct and still has
only two traffic signals between Liberia Avenue in Manassas to Hoadly Road, instead of 12 stop lights as had been proposed by PWC.

Bob Marshall’s critic must have blinders on to ignore the VDOT road construction around Prince William. Delegate Marshall is the original Republican sponsor of the Transportation lock box constitutional
amendment to prevent the diversion of transportation taxes to non-transportation uses. Gov. Kaine supports that.

There is much more to Delegate Marshall’s record and I am sure he will address it in the campaign.

Bob Marshall had a record of community service BEFORE he was elected to office. How has Bob Marshall’s Democratic opponent helped our local community? Please answer that.

I have seen two letters throwing mud at Bob Marshall by supporters of Loudoun Democrat John Bell, who, according to press reports and his Web site, thinks two men should be allowed to get “married,”
wants no restrictions of any kind on abortion and says he will consider a gas tax.

That may work in parts of Loudoun, but not here in Prince William.

Del. Marshall always campaigns on topics such as transportation; once elected, he switches to abortion and the dogma of the Catholic church.

Remember the Finn case and Del, Marshall’s involvement?  A terrible example of meddling in a family’s personal tragedy and affairs.

So Marshall won his legal challenge over localities taxation powers.  I thought the taxes were primarily for tRansportation.  Thus, I ask, what did the lawsuit do for N Va transportation.  Answer:  nothing—- that’s Marshall’s legislative record on transportation.

Having watched numerous private-sector executives come to Government service only to fail massively, I don’t get what private sector experience brings to the table?  The fact is that the best preparation for public sector service is public sector service.  Bob has 13+ years in the House of Delegates.  John has 26 years in the military, about 13 of which was as an officer in the field of Financial Management and Comptrollers.  Having worked with other officers in this field, these folks are the ones that handle the money and decide on the programs that the military will execute—just the kind of background that *is* relevant.

MITRE is not owned by the government. It is an autonomous organization. I guess you’d be ok with the expertise it provides if it were more like Bob Marshall’s employer, American Life League. With headlines on their website like “Obama to Elderly: Die” (6-26-09) and “KRISPY KREME CELEBRATES OBAMA WITH PRO-ABORTION DOUGHNUTS” (1-15-09) it’s obvious that Marshall is so much more qualified to represent the 13th district. Sorry, I stand corrected.

Here’s a newsflash for you. MITRE is not private sector. They have one customer, which is the federal government, are a nonprofit, and 100% supported by tax dollars. Maybe you should stick to lying about Bob’s record?

Facts are stubborn things, indeed.

Maybe Bob can teach you some of the skills he’s picked up as a research consultant. John Bell has worked in the private sector as an Economic Analyst in McLean since retiring from the Air Force. Facts are stubborn things…

Yes, because never having worked a single day in the private sector qualifies one to write legislation about the economy and solve transportation problems.

Bet he really knows how to spend the tax dollars, though.

Delegate Marshall:

You have been very effective in your legislation on behalf of your constituents.

Congratulations for another court victory on behalf of your constituents.  Another fine example of your effective legislation.

and the mud slinging continues some of us are so sick and tied of politics as usual, people were screaming for change in the last election and all they got was more of the same (dont’ even go there, I can list many things promised by politicians that have NOT been done)..... as long as we have a two party system, we will continue with the same tied old arguments by a bunch of typical politicians.

All it would take is one quick peek at John Bell’s website bio section (http://www.votejohnbell.com/biography) to see that John has done more for every American than Bob Marshall could say he’s done for even his far right conservative base. However, what I find most interesting (and, really, not very surprising) is that his supporters would rather bring the conversation to a close by bringing up gay marriage and abortion than inform you of the fact that John Bell has spent almost his entire adult life in the United States Air Force and will bring issues like transportation, education, and the economy back to the forefront in the 13th district. Classic far right conservative tactic. Scare. Scare. Scare. If the ONLY issues you care about are gay marriage and abortion, go ahead and vote for Bob Marshall. That’s what he’ll be focusing his time on. But if you care about the things that affect all families on a daily basis, you might want to ask yourself: What has Bob done for you?
