In observance of Nursing Home Week May 10-16, Gainesville Health and Rehab Center will host a series of events designed to enrich the relationships and contacts between residents, youth, community members, family and staff.
The theme of the week is "Nurturing a Love that Lasts."
"Our residents have so much to offer," said Marti Dahl, administrator. "This seemed like the perfect showcase."
Special events will include a Mother's Day Tea and crowning of the Queen of Mother's Day; a daily resident and staff costume contest; attending a baseball game at Battlefield High School; musical performance by the Shiner's Band; volunteer appreciation tea; Heritage Hunt Line Dancers and a musical performance by Tom Stringer.
Nursing Home Week is an annual observance sponsored nationally by both the American and Virginia Health Care Associations.

Battlefield High choir to perform spring concerts
Battlefield High School Choir will perform its free spring concert Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium.
Also plan to attend its Broadway concert on May 28 at 7:30 p.m.
The cost for the Broadway concert is $5 per person. Proceeds will benefit Battlefield High School's Choir Department.

Help your toddlers learn, and socialize as well
Give your child the gift of learning at Wee Ones Learn, a learning and socialization program for 2- and 3-year-olds. The weekly, 50-minute class takes place in Gainesville on Wednesdays at 10 a.m.
Wee Ones Learn focuses on alphabet, shape and color recognition, number concepts, reading, music and movement.
The cost is $60 for a six-week session or $12 per drop-in class.

Manassas Baptist Church hosts its annual yard sale
Hearth & Home ADHC, a ministry of Manassas Baptist Church, will host a yard sale May 16 from 8 a.m. to noon at 8730 Sudley Road, Manassas (the old Marstellar Middle School).
Rent a booth to sell yard sale items or market your business products/services.
Donations of used, sellable items are also being accepted by Hearth & Home ADHC. Please, no clothing.
Proceeds will support Hearth & Home's programs and services. The event will be held rain or shine.

PWCS office offers 'Tools for Family Success' workshop
Prince William County Public Schools Office of Special Education Parent Resource Center and the Arc of Greater Prince William will co-host a workshop for parents of children with disabilities.
The workshop, "Tools for Family Success: How Do You Care for Everybody (Including Yourself)?" will be held May 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Muriel Humphrey Center at 13715 Hillendale Drive in Dale City.
Presenting will be Linda Zegley, Ph.D., LPC, Benedictine Counseling Services counseling coordinator; Anna Far-rell, LCSW, BCS case management coordinator; Erin Gaudreault, M.S.W., BCS therapist; and Sister Glenna Smith, director of BCS.
Topics will include parenting relationships, family dynamics and problem solving and techniques for relaxation and self-care. Using the Parenting Relationship Questionnaire as a starting point, the presentation will use interactive techniques and allow time for questions from participants.
There is no charge to attend this workshop. Childcare will be available for a small fee. Advanced registration is required and limited to 40 attendees.
