Neighborhood news: VFW post, auxiliary to install officers

On Saturday, VFW Post 7916 in Occoquan will hold a joint installation of officers for the post and the ladies auxiliary.

Events start with a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by installation ceremony, dinner and entertainment, and the event is open to post members and guests.

New officers for 2009-10 are commander, Wayne Dearie; senior vice commander, Dave Wagner; junior vice com-mander, Stu Sanford; quartermaster, Clyde Embrey; advocate, Mark Brewer; surgeon, Gary Beider; chaplain, Donne Brandy; third-year trustee, Otto Sagwitz. Installing officer is J. David Keith.

Officers for the Ladies Auxiliary are president, Nancy Huff; senior vice president, Chris Marshall; junior vice presi-dent, Corky McAfee; treasurer, Rachel Sagwitz; chaplain, Becky Eide; conductress, Tammy Warner; guard, Susan Wroth; first-year trustee, Chris Marshall; second-year trustee, Corky McAfee; third-year trustee, Susan Carr.

Rockledge to sponsor spring bazaar

Rockledge Elementary PTA whill sponsor a spring bazaar May 16 from 8 a.m. to noon. Registrations from crafters and vendors of small businesses are being accepted; if you'd like to participate, please contact Penny Grabowski at 703-494-1301.

Band students selected for All-County

Lake Ridge Middle School's music students who were selected for All-County Band are Natalie Buffington, Emily King, Connor Patrick, Zoe Rigtrup, Lexy Rowberry and Stephen Stern, Diana Wassenberg; alternates are Brian Hathaway, Bethany Jackson and Jill Thompson.

Learn about kindergarten at Springwoods

Springwoods Elementary School will hold Kindergarten 2009-10 Information Night at the school June 4 at 6:30 p.m. This is a time to visit the classrooms and meet administration and teachers.

Booster club holds golf classic June 19

Golfers will gather June 19 at the Osprey Golf Club on Belmont Bay for the Golf Classic sponsored by Woodbridge Senior High School's athletic booster club.

The Viking Athletic Booster Club raises money to help support WSHS, the athletic department and the sports teams. You can sign up your golfing foursome to play for $320. This includes greens fees, cart, a post-tournament buffet and many prizes and contests including a hole-in-one cash prize. Sponsorships are also available.
