Attention middle and high school students: The Chinn Park Regional Library's Creative Arts Contest is now under way. You may enter in the categories of short story, poetry or art in any medium. Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, techniques and emotional impact. Art entries must be submitted to the library by 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21. Poetry and short stories must be submitted by e-mail to childrensservicescp @pwcgov.org.

Prizes will be awarded in each category and one contestant will be awarded the Grand Prize. Contestants will be featured in the Creative Arts Showcase on Sunday, Oct.18, at 2 p.m. at the library. Entry forms are available at the Library Information Desk or at the library Web site at http://www.pwcgov.org/library. The library is located at 13065 Chinn Park Drive in Woodbridge.

Food allergy awareness program

Would you know what to do if someone in your family had an allergic reaction to a food? Join representatives from the Bristow Allergy Moms as they present information from the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) on Wednesday, May 6 at 7 p.m. at the Bull Run Regional Library, 8051 Ashton Ave. in Manassas. Library 'shenanigans'

Shenanigans is Central Community Library's craft program designed for students in grades kindergarten and up. It features unique, keepsake crafts that provide a fun, yet challenging activity for school-aged students. The program on May 7 at 4 p.m. features Flowers by the Handful, when participants can use the outline of their hand to hold a basket of handmade flowers in honor of Mother's Day.

Regional Library

-  Tomorrow, the library celebrates El Dia de Los Nino's: El Dia de Los Libros, with stories in Spanish and English and a fun craft in honor of the day. This is a free program for children ages three and up with a caregiver. No tickets or registration is required.

-  If you like to make crafts with a needle or hook, visit the library on Tuesday, May 5 at 7 p.m. and have fun sharing your craft and meeting others who also enjoy needle work. This is a free program for adults.

-  Looking for that perfect gift to show your mom how special she is? Middle and high school students are invited to the library on Thursday, May 7 at 7 p.m. for an evening of crafty fun, making a keychain to give to Mom on her special day. All materials will be provided. Space is limited. Register for this free program in person or by telephone.

-  Whether you are young or old, Social Security has a program that affects you. Find out how you can save time, money and energy when you attend a Social Security Administration workshop at the library on Saturday, May 9 at 2 p.m. A representative will be on hand to explain the various programs Social Security offers, how to use SSA online forms, how you can calculate your benefits and much more.
