Man jumps in front of pickup on U.S. 1
A man who witnesses said was involved in an argument with his girlfriend jumped in front of a pickup truck on U.S. 1 on Saturday about 5:30 p.m. in front of the Dumfries-Triangle Volunteer Fire Station.

Police: S.C. resident used pay phone to make bomb threat
Police said the man, Bryan Paul Durrance, 35, of Saint Helena, S.C., used a pay phone to notify police of a bomb that he said was inside a hotel in the 16900 block of Old Stage Road in Dumfries.

Tempers flare as board attempts to find money
A suggestion that the Dumfries Town Council forgo its pay for a year to help ease the town’s budget crisis caused finger pointing and tempers to flare among a few of its members during Wednesday’s meeting.
Dumfries is nearly out of cash
The town of Dumfries is just about broke. Its monthly expenses are greater than the revenue it is taking in. So, for the last few months, it’s been dipping into its reserve fund to pay the bills.
