Call to action: Red Cross seeks teens for Youth Corps
Good morning, Prince William. Those super folks at the American Red Cross is calling all teens and preteens age 12 and older to join the Youth Corps. This is the perfect time to become affiliated with a great group of kids doing fun things in the community for others while building your skills. It's a good chance to improve on your volunteering resume for school, complete hours for your classes and club commitments, and it's certainly the right time to expand your knowledge and circle of friends.
As a member of the Youth Corps, you have the opportunity to visit seniors in nursing homes, learn how to help with blood donations, learn how to teach basic first aid training to elementary school kids, be a health and safety class assistant or teach the babysitter course and learn how assist in the event of a disaster at a shelter, with mobile feeding and mass care.

The neat folks at Yes You Can in Manassas Park are looking for teens to help them at various events throughout the year. First up is the yard sale on this Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Teens are also needed to work the drop off center from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday in anticipation of the event Saturday. This is another great way to help out and build your service log, so please give HatCat a call at 571-214-6790 to register for this event.
The wonderful folks at Norther
Virginia Family Services have several homes in the Woodbridge area needing the lawns mowed. This is of course a short-term project since fall is right around the corner, but it's a much needed project, so please call Anna at 703-219-2193 to help out with this quick, easy project.
The economy is getting better, but there is still a large number of folks counting on the wonderful people at Streetlight Ministries for a nice warm meal on Wednesday evenings in Woodbridge. Volunteers are needed for helping with this meal as well as helping in their food closet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Please call Bonnie at 703-491-2288, Ext. 231, to sign up for a shift.
Huge cheers to the Prince William County Park Authority Silver Lake volunteers in recognition of their award from Virginia Recreation and Parks Society. These super conservationists from the Bull Run Conservancy, Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition, Nokesville Horse Society and the Prince William Conservation Alliance have given all of us an incredible jewel.
