Baby dies, mother charged with felony neglect
Police say a 9-month baby girl is dead after her mother left her alone in the bathtub in their Dale City home.
Police were called to a house in the 12900 block of Kingswell Drive at 12:21 p.m. Saturday for a report of an unconscious infant, said Prince William County police spokeswoman Erika Hernandez.
The baby’s mother, 21-year-old Julia Sumo, is charged with felony child neglect, Hernandez said.
Hernandez said Sumo put her daughter in the tub for a bath and then left her unattended. When Sumo returned, the baby was unconscious, according to police.
The baby was flown to an area hospital where she later died, Hernandez said.
Sumo is being held without bond pending a hearing in Prince William Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
Police said the investigation continues.

Who cares if something is coming off as racist or not? And who cares if no one has the nerve to admit it? Everyone is talking about freedoms further below in the comments, so let me remind you that a persons choice to believe what they want about another race is their freedom ( not to mention it’s just a nasty aspect of nature ).

I have read the comments and I cannot believe the bull that is being stated. This is not about race, it is about a child who’s mother is irresponsible and resulted in the child’s death. Whether she looks crazy or is black, white, purple etc.. has not bearing. If you have issues on race etc.. take it somewhere else, not as a comment regarding a child’s death.

People (some) are far too sensitive about “race”. I have not seen the color of her skin referred to as of yet.
Generally, when a parent is accused of neglect, as in this case, the worse assumptions are made about that parent.
Welfare recipient, drug addict, and so on.
Yes, I do believe that if there were a photo of a blonde, blue eyed woman, the charges were the same, her baby were equally as dead… the comments would be the same.

I think people are missing the point here about race especially since no one wants to be called a racist. I called out ROZ because of the comment post about the Mother needing to be fixed so she can’t breed again (like she is some kind of animal) and “where her Social worker was” when by what the article did not say anything about the mother’s financial status or mental health… All ROZ had to go on was a mug shot of a woman who looks black nothing else… So would ROZ have made the same comment if the lady had blond hair and blu eyes? Things like this happen every day with children being left in cars or school buses… now the mom should charged with neglect you don’t leave an infant alone in the bath tub under any circumstances…

There’s plenty of racism out there—especially from Republicans. Gets wors every day —and especially since Obama’s election. Can I count you as one also? I forgot: no one ever admits he is a racist. (There’s none in the south I am told.)
So sad. I hope she has a good excuse for abandoning that baby. It better be on the order of “My babydaddy had a knife to my throat and made me leave the room” but I doubt that will happen.
pwc94, don’t be a retard. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty and you don’t know the facts anymore than I do. Will she likely be convicted? Statistically, yes. But stop spouting off nonsense. You’ll likely get your wish eventually if/when she is convicted.

Phdee- Growing up in the liberal north, I often heard the same coment about any woman on welfare, (and in northern Maine, that is almost always white)
