Virginia Governor Timothy M. Kaine has received a petition for clemency for convicted Washington, D.C. area sniper, John Allen Muhammad.

The document arrived at the governor’s office this week, said Gordon Hickey, Kaine’s press secretary.

“The governor does not discuss clemency petitions, but we can say that we have received the petition,” said Hickey.

Last month on an interview show on WTOP radio, Kaine said it would be unlikely he would grant Muhammad clemency.

Muhammad’s defense attorney, Jonathan Sheldon, is expected to release the text of the petition today.

Muhammad was sentenced to death for killing Dean Harold Meyers, a Gaithersburg, Md. man who stopped for gas near Manassas in 2002.

Meyers was one of 13 people gunned down during the sniper rampage that terrorized the Washington region. Ten people died and three more were wounded before Muhammad and teen accomplice Lee Boyd Malvo were arrested.

Muhammad is scheduled to die on Nov. 10. Malvo was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison.

Muhammad will file an appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court on Nov. 2, but is not speaking with reporters – or his adult son – due to prison rules and regulations, according to a statement issued by Sheldon.

Sheldon said his client is mentally ill and allowing Muhammad to do media interviews would be unethical.

Muhammad is being held at the Sussex State Prison in Waverly.

There is no reason not to execute him.
We have medicine and counselors and place to go when you are having problems.  People like him have no excuse.  I think Waverly is near a waste dump.  Let just toss him in there like the trash he is.
And for the ones that are going to get caught for tossing our children in places like that i say toss them in there too.  I am sick of the way these men are terrorizing are society and getting away with it.  They need to let them know either find help before they hurt someone.  Because we will find them and with prosecute them with fullest extent of the law.  I think the death penalty has its uses.
I also think putting some of them out of there misery is too easy.  But to pardon these criminals is not going to happen.  Be done with him or toss him in the dungeon with the rodents and rats. Lock the door, never again to see the light of day. Let his maker, have him, we cannot pardon him. Or any of the rest of these devils. To Hades with em. Let something else forgive em because i can’t and won’t even try.

I would almost bet with the Nov election and execution on the same day. Kaine will (At the last minute) let this worthless scum off the hook and commute the sentence.

No prosecutorial misconduct here. He is a complete coward, obsessed with saving his own hide. Be a man, for once, for the very first time, and take what you have coming. It’s time to go.

Even if you’re against the death penalty for moral reason, if anyone deserves the death penalty it’s a serial killer, and that’s exactly what this guy is.

He killed 10 people for crying out loud.  Should we give him a computer and let him get a law degree?

Please and appease.

I posted the same comment on the other article but I maintain that if Kaine grants him life in prison than Kaine should have a mental evaluation

Muhammad was all for the death penalty.

10 sentenced to death, 3 survivors (not for lack of effort on his part)

Not to mention the terrorism he inflicted on the entire metro area during his maniacal spree.

Could care less if he lives or dies.

If our tax dollars must feed and shelter him, the least he could do is a life time of hard labor and/or solitary.

I am totally against the death penalty - even for a scumb bag like him.

I’m not wild about the death penalty.  But if anybody ever deserved it, its John Allen Muhammad.  No question about his guilt.  No excuse for his actions.

the govenor should not give him anything except for a sooner date to
execute his sick deranged creep.
Let him meet his maker.  The sooner the better.
