Man shot during home invasion
Published: October 20, 2008
Police said a man shot in the head during a home invasion in Dumfries last week walked to a nearby fire station for help.
Detectives believe that the man who was shot was one of three armed men who forced their way into a town house in the 2900 block of Buell Court at about 8:25 p.m. Thursday, said Erika Hernandez, Prince William police spokeswoman, in a release Monday.
The victims, a man and a woman who were in the house at the time of the intrusion, called police and reported a burglary in progress.
The three gunmen forced the man and the woman to the third level of the town house where the shooting occurred, Hernandez said.
Police did not release details of the how the shooting unfolded.
The gunmen, including the one who was shot in the head, jumped from the third floor window to escape.
A police canine unit found another of the men hiding a short distance away, with an injured leg. Police could not find the third man, Hernandez said.
The man who was shot was later flown to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Hernandez said.
Police said the identities of the gunmen are “being developed.” No arrests had been made by Monday.
The victims were not injured, Hernandez said.

Williamstown has always been a rough area.
I heard three men were in the Spriggs Road area trying to break into houses by bumping the doors. Has anyone else heard about this?
I don’t care what anyone says, I’ve lived in PWC for 20 years and the police department does a wonderful job. They can’t be everywhere. Just like the government can’t take care of everyone. Learn to pull up your own boot straps and help protect your own community. Go and buy a gun or two. Everyone needs to own a gun whether you like them or not. A criminal’s favorite target is an unarmed one. In Kennesaw Georgia they have an unenforced law that states every household must have a firearm.
The Board is wrong for cutting the Police. This type of home invasion is on the increase through out the metro area.
I have had two friends ask me about buying a gun and training in just the last week.
The bad guys are not afraid someone is home they want you at home so they can take you and your car to the ATM to take out money.
Be afraid, be very afraid, your neighborhood is NOT safe.
This is a bad time to be cutting back on police, for sure. We need to be doubling our force rather than cutting back.
Maybe we need to rearrange things so the PWCPD isn’t where the next round of budget cuts are.
blue-doggette,
I agree that crime appears to be on the increase. These criminals are viewing our police as ineffective and non-threatening.
A police show of force in the eastern part of the county would be effective as a deterrent.
Is this county just going totally ghetto or what?
It seems to me that crime is increasing and getting more violent. Anyone else notice this?
