Police on Thursday were hunting for a bank robber who hit the Synergy One Federal Credit Union off Sudley Manor Drive just before noon.
Prince William County police responded to a call around 11:50 a.m. for a robbery at the bank at 8400 Chatsworth Drive.
It appears the robber, described as white, 20 to 30 years old and wearing a green jacket with a hood and a black knit hat, walked into the bank, approached a teller and demanded money, said Prince William police spokeswoman Erika Hernandez.
The man, described as being 5 feet 7 or 5 feet 8 inches tall and 150 pounds with a light beard, did not show a gun, but “implied” that he had one, Hernandez said.
Police converged on the area to search for the man, but made no arrest Thursday.
While a helicopter circled overhead, Joe Perrie watched the activity at the credit union, where police cars blocked the entrance.
Perrie said he was surprised that the credit union was robbed since life in the neighborhood is usually uneventful.
“This is a very quiet suburban area,” said Perrie, the district manager for Self Storage Plus.
Jan Knight, who works at the storage business that is down the road from the credit union, said her company banks at Synergy One.
“We’ve been here a couple of months and it’s been very quiet. It’s a nice area,” Knight said. “I walk down there every day.”
She said she couldn’t imagine why robbers chose Synergy One since it doesn’t have easy street access.
“I don’t know why they would hit that one instead of some of the others. There’s only one way to get out of there,” she said.
The robber left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.
No one was hurt during the robbery, Hernandez said.

I would really like there to be a picture posted! or a sketch? Wonder if one will be revealed?
They have video cameras in the bank. Why isn’t there a photo supplied to see if anyone recognizes him and can report it?
As a member of the Credit Union I’m taking this personally. Looking forward to seeing ‘ol Mr. Green Jacket sent up the river for stealing my money.
