Police charge mother in teen’s disappearance
Police late Tuesday charged the mother of a 13-year-old girl reported missing last week in connection with the teen’s disappearance.
Alfreedia Leona Gregg-Glover, 44, of 8245 Sunset Drive outside Manassas, is charged with felony child neglect and filing a false police report. She is being held without bond.
Police last night did not elaborate on the charges. A news conference is planned for 11 a.m.
Gregg-Glover was arrested after a search of her home Tuesday evening. Detectives would not say what they were looking for or what they found.
Alexis Glover was reported missing from the Central Library in Manassas about noon on Jan. 7. The girl had severe autism and chronic medical problems and frequently ran away. She wore a GPS bracelet from the Prince William Sheriff’s Office Project Lifesaver program to help keep track of her.
On Friday, a resident taking a walk on Asdee Lane near the McCoart Administration Building — about eight miles from the library — found the girl’s body submerged in a creek.
Police said they have not officially ruled the case a homicide, but are calling it a suspicious death. Autopsy results on the girl’s body have not been released.
Prince William Police Chief Charlie T. Deane told reporters Friday that evidence in the case pointed to a homicide, but did not elaborate.
Tuesday’s arrest comes a day after Alexis’ mother issued a plea asking for anyone who knew anything about her daughter’s death to come forward. Freedia Glover adopted the girl seven years ago.
Police conducted an exhaustive two-day search for the girl after Glover reported that Alexis ran away from her near the library.
On Tuesday night, police searched at least four cars parked outside the Glover house as neighbors watched.
Police would not say if the Glover family consented to the search, or if detectives had a search warrant.

I am just glad this case will go through the justice system and that we no longer allow lynch mobs to get at people.

Anon, you really are reaching. My only point is to wait until all the facts are in before stoning this woman. That’s all. Its a fairly simple concept. And if the facts determine that she premediatively killed this child, I will join you in stoning her, maybe even before she stands trial.
However, if other facts come out that she accidentally hurt the child, or if one of her children did something to her and the mother tried to protect another child, I might view her differently. Might.
Since ALL the facts are not out then I am going to try real hard not to listen to gossip or read misquotes in the Washington Post. Newspapers have been known to give out incorrect information.
I have never defended this woman. I simply refuse to stone her before I know all the facts.
