Chevy Chase to host 'appreciation days'
Chevy Chase Bank will host "Customer Appreciation Days" at 14 locations in the D.C. metro area, including one in Manassas.
The branch, located at 9560 Liberia Ave., will observe its "day" this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Since the announcement in July of the bank's decision to close 54 branches inside Giant Food stores, the company has urged its clients to make use of the more than 240 traditional neighborhood branches in the area.
Law enforcement job fair to be held Oct. 22
The public is invited to explore careers in law enforcement at a job fair Oct. 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College at 6901 Sudley Road.
Recruiters from federal, state and local law enforcement agencies will participate.
"We are expecting a large number of representatives from the criminal justice field. People who want to learn about career opportunities in law enforcement should plan to spend at least an hour at the campus that day," said Russ Carter, head of the administration of justice program.

Contours Express will host flu shot clinic Oct. 25
Contours Express of Manassas will host an Inova Flu Shot Clinic for men and women 18 or older on Oct. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $25 per person, which is payable in cash, check or money order.

SCORE will provide free, confidential, one-on-one counseling for small business owners and prospective owners at the Mason Enterprise Center Prince William, George Mason University on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Lockheed Martin gets $1.2 million contract
Lockheed Martin in Manassas has been awarded a $1.2 million contract by the U.S. Department of Energy to demonstrate ways to use ocean thermal energy conversion.
Under terms of the cooperative agreement, research will be done with the promise of providing clean, baseload electricity to energy markets that today rely almost exclusively on fossil fuels.
NVCC board to meet at Annandale Campus
The Northern Virginia Community College Board will meet on Monday in the Ernst Cultural Center at the Annandale Campus.
Board Chairman Greg Schuckman will preside over the meeting. Items on the agenda include approval of the Six Year Capital Plan, and work sessions on financing ways for new facilities and campuses, the role of the Foundation Board, the role of the College Board and a status report on the search for new campuses.
The meetings are open to the public.
