Charges in KC’s killing sent to grand jury
Everything was fine at KC's Restaurant in the early morning hours of Oct. 11—until everyone started to leave.
A large group of people had gathered at the restaurant in Manassas to hear local musicians perform.
As the restaurant began to clear out, a fight broke out in the parking lot, prosecutors said Tuesday.
"At some point as the night wore on, an altercation took place," Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Richard Conway said.
During the fight, 25-year-old Curtiss Kamau Brown, of Dumfries, was shot and killed in the parking lot around 1:30 a.m., police said.
Tuesday, Ricky Lee Allen Kerns, 21, appeared in Prince William General District for a preliminary hearing on charges of murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony for Brown's death.
A judge ruled that there is enough evidence to send the charges to the grand jury.
At the hearing, a witness, Dominic Williams, said that he saw Brown slap another man outside the restaurant that night. A fight then broke out between the two men.
Williams said he then saw Kerns pull out a gun and shoot Brown.
"I saw at least three shots," Williams said.
After the shooting, Brown was taken to Prince William Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
A grand jury in Prince William Circuit Court will consider the case in December. If the grand jury finds sufficient evidence, a trial date will then be set.

im not understanding y all of this stuff is being sed on herre…none of us can control wat is going on if a man dat knos ricky’s face sed dat he saw ricky shoot and kill curtiss den its nothin u can do but let the justice system do its job clearly there is otha evidence against ricky that is incriminating him another thng yes curtiss (a grown man) slapped anotha grown man but dat in no way shape or form justifies pickin up a damn gun and shootin him wat so ever. Lovecb 23 idk hoo u r but i don need to come on hea everyday seein dat u r on hea stirrin up all dis anamosity with rickys family and frends cuz both of our families are going through more den wat we need to b goin through right now our wounds of losin a family member are still wide open and we don need u opening ur mouth doin all these extra carricular activities. to rickys family and frends u keep sayin dat rickys innocent den y arent u trying to da best of ur abilities to try to find the real killa so dat u can have ricky back in ur life…dats jus not making sense to me all i can do is go by wat im seein and hearing in court and if there are other eyewitnesses like waitresses saying that ricky was at da bar while everythng went down den y isnt rickys lawyer bringn dem on da stand dey shudv ben on da stand on nov 17 testifying…i didn come on hea to start any ana i came on hea to squash all dis bickering back n forth love cb23 plz cut it out cuz ur not helpin the situation at all to ricky’s family im sorry for ur loss but plzz realize dat if ricky does get convicted dat u can still go c him and visit him and hear his voice all i can do is go c my brothas tombstone and look at pictures of him all he is is a memory now because sumbody decided to pikk up a gun and murder my brotha!
I’m not gonna feed into this petty BS anymore no matter how much I argue with you guys nothing will bring him back. I guess we just have to wait until Dec 8th to see justice served! 
first of all lovecb23, we all know people in the criminal justice field are trained to lie just like the witness…and are we supposed to act like you know what your talking about??? you just want to find someone guilty so bad…just like you want to defend your love we want to defend ours…you can’t get upset because ricky has family to stand behind him… another thing this is a lesson you cant just go around thinking your bad and you can slap people because you never know what can happen… oh yea, you know just as much as i know u’all think all white people look alike…they got the wrong one…get use to seeing us around were going to be at every court date and if you don’t like it don’t show up… im done cause we both lost people in this case and this is not a time to argue so i’m going to be the big person and say sorry for your loss and we’ll see you on december 8th…
Lovecb23, you can go ahead and quit with your “um sweety” cocky crap. No one really cares if you’re in the criminal justice field. And I’m not understanding how you say Curtiss was the man by slapping the other guy in the fight, but then two seconds later you said men are supposed to fight with fists, open hand isn’t a fist, sweety. You need to think about what you’re saying before you say it. I did not know Curtiss and am again VERY sorry for his family’s loss, but you just made him look bad and I’m sure his family wouldn’t appreciate that! I do agree with you that guns aren’t the way though. Both families are hurting and going through immense pain in their own ways so you can quit with your denial, denial, denial and grieve another way instead of coming on here downing Ricky. Unless you personally knew him, you have no right to say anything! Also, being in the criminal justice field you should know that not all cops or witnesses are truthful and will do what they have to do to cover up the truth to get the outcome they want. So please, do not come on this site thinking you’re all high and mighty because you work in the field, you’re not and no one cares!!!
um sweety, its called general knowledge! being in the criminal justice field never have i read or seen a murderer keep the murder weapon in their possession or anywhere close to their vicinity. second curt was the nice guy he slapped him like a man how a man is supposed to fight with fists, not being a coward and start shooting,who does that?!? someone thats a coward and scared to go down like a man in a real fight! again open them eyes up! denial denial denial!!

First off, for the family and friends of Curtiss, you are still in our thoughts and prayers. Secondly, lovecb23 and EVERYONE else who is running their mouth’s about us defending such a monster saying don’t we feel stupid, and hoping he rots in jail…maybe YOU all should go and google what a preliminary hearing actually is, it doesn’t mean he’s gulity. So you should all feel pretty dumb for assuming all that you have!!! The truth will eventually come out and we all hope for your peace Curtiss’ REAL killer is found!
