Manassas Chorale at Carnegie Hall on DVD
The Manassas Chorale will provide a free viewing of the DVD at its Carnegie Hall performance earlier this year. It will be shown Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary of Grace United Methodist Church on Wellington Road in Manassas.
Three screens will allow everyone to experience the venue in New York City with a massed chorus of 300 singers and a full orchestra. The local chorale made up 20 percent of the chorus.
Rescue squad team gets second in competition
Members of the Greater Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad Competition team won second place in the State EMT Competition conduced recently at the 75th annual Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads Convention in Virginia Beach.
The team consisted of Drew McRoberts, Stephanie Popish, Jordan Coleman and Priscilla Switzer.
Chamber to hold benefit at Bertucci’s on Oct. 26
The Prince William County-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce will host a benefit on Oct. 26 at Bertucci’s Restaurant, 8114 Stonewall Shops Square, Gainesville.
For all customers who buy lunch or dinner at the restaurant, the facility will donate 10 percent of the total bill to the chamber’s scholarship fund.
The chamber annually awards 12 $1,000 scholarships to local graduating seniors.
League of Women Voters to host tea
The League of Women Voters Prince William Area Unit is inviting the public to enjoy tea, get the latest scoop on Virginia politics and learn how to get more women involved in leadership.
The tea, on Nov. 1 in the Occoquan Room at the McCoart Administration Building, is free and open to the public.
Bob Gibson, executive director of the Sorenson Institute of the University of Virginia, will detail how the institute works and how it can help attract more and better prepared candidates — especially women — for office.

Event for Military Appreciation Day
Veterans and active duty military are invited to the Woodbridge Campus of Northern Virginia Community College for Military Appreciation Day on Nov. 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the first floor atrium.
Active duty military, retirees and their dependents can enjoy refreshments and giveaways while collecting information from the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Survivors Education Benefits Program, Concurrent Admissions Program, and more. NVCC representatives will be available to answer questions about college programs and financial aid.

Red Cross be a ‘hero’ campaign under way
The Prince William Red Cross Heroes campaign is in full swing. The money raised by this campaign will help fund programs and services — such as disaster relief, preparedness education and Services to Armed Forces — that the Prince William American Red Cross provides the community.
More than 40 heroes have already committed to raise or donate $1,000, and members of the Heroes cabinet lead by John D. Jenkins, Neabsco District supervisor, are still seeking individuals and community organizations that would like to help achieve the chapter’s $60,000 fundraising goal.

‘The Horse Boy’ location change
Due to popularity, Rupert Isaacson will now show his documentary film, “The Horse Boy: A Father’s Quest to Heal His Son,” at the Highland School Theater, U.S. 17 North, Warrenton, on Nov. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m.
The evening is being offered by the Rainbow Therapeutic Riding Program to raise awareness about the benefits of year-round therapeutic riding for children with autism. The event will feature a screening of the film, followed by a lecture and book signing.
Individual tickets are $50; friends, $75; benefactors $100.
