Prosecutor: Lexie Glover drowned
Alexis "Lexie" Glover died from drowning and exposure to the cold after being dumped in a creek last month, according to a state medical examiner's report.
The case of the 13-year-old has officially been ruled a homicide, and the girl's adoptive mother—charged with felony child neglect and filing a false police report in her disappearance—will likely soon face a murder charge.
"We will present additional charges to the grand jury on March 2," Prince William County Commonwealth's Attorney Paul Ebert said Thursday. He would not say what those charges might be.
Her mother, 45-year-old Alfreedia Gregg-Glover, is out of jail on bond and staying with family in the Chesapeake area.
Police said she told authorities she took Lexie to Central Library in Manassas on the morning of Jan. 7, and then the girl ran away.
A two-day search involving more than 300 law enforcement officers ensued.
Police were concerned because Glover told them Lexie suffered from severe autism and sickle cell anemia. Ebert said he didn't know details of the girl's medical condition.
What is known is that Lexie frequently ran away. She was fitted with a GPS bracelet through a Prince William Sheriff's Office program to locate her when she disappeared. That bracelet was found near the library.
On Jan. 9, a jogger in a golf course neighborhood on Greatbridge Road and Asdee Lane in Woodbridge, found the girl in a creek in about a foot of water.
According to court documents, police believe that Lexie had an unspecified medical emergency around 7 a.m. on Jan. 7 and Gregg-Glover did not get her proper medical attention.
Police believe she instead dumped her daughter in the creek.
She was jailed and then released on a $5,000 bond on Feb. 5.
Lexie Glover would have turned 14 next Thursday.

PWCResident you are the only person in this dialog that used the “a” word. The problem with people who have emotional responses is that they jump to conclusions. I fear that is what you did.
For future reference, you are going to find people who have a different point of view than you do. Jumping up and down and yelling, “Ignorant.“ is not only juvenile, it is counterproductive.
Best of luck to you.
RSF750- I don’t think I “made” your case. A person who is ill-equipped to have a child should either not have sex or take precautions not to get pregnant. Realizing that only sterilization is 100% effective, if the ill-equipped person to raise a child, has sex and gets pregnant than that person should put their child up for adoption. Believe me there are plenty of people who have abortions and still have children and still are ill-equipped to raise a child. I don’t believe a Catholic or Pro-Life supporter made Lexi’s mom put her up for adoption so that a monster could adopt her and kill her. You are using a completely inappropriate situation to make a case for abortions.
PWCResident I appreciate your emotional response to my comment. But you made my case.
You probably think “children are a gift from god”. See, I think otherwise. I think the gift from god is the “opportunity to raise a child”. Unfortunately, there are groups who make it their business to impede sex education. These same groups “make” people who are ill-equipped to raise a child see the process through.
You asked “Why is it society’s problem?“. Who do you think will raise this child? How do you think children find their way into the foster care system? More effort needs to be paid at the front end of the procreation process.
So how did you make my case? Well, what if someone is ill-equipped to raise a child has unprotected sex? You didn’t answer that question.
RSF750- You are absolutely ignorant! What does being Catholic or Pro-Life have to do with this case? A monster chose to adopt this child and killed her. Nobody put pressure on her to adopt this child. She obviously is ill-equipped to be a parent, but that is not the fault of any Catholic or Pro-Life Supporter. If someone is ill-equipped to have or raise a child then they either don’t have sex, use protection or get sterilized! Why is abortion the right answer for being irresponsible, or why is it society’s problem? You are completely ignorant!
Let’s make sure the pro-life groups and the catholic church absorb their share of this tragedy. They put so much pressure on people ill-equipped to raise children to have them. Then the child gets dumped on society where bad things can happen.
This women is not a mother if she did this she is a monster and should have been held until a cause of death was determined. We have teens in this county in jail awaiting court dates for far less crimes then murdering a child.
It is hard to trust our justice system next we will hear this women jumped bail!
Hi Everyone,
Please attend and support the Alexis Glover Memorial Service, which will be held at 7:00pm on February 21, 2009 at Old Dominion Baptist Church located at 9560 Linton Hall Road, Bristow, Virginia 20136.
It is open to the public. Please don’t let Alexis be forgotten!
I agree with all of its a shame that she was adopted out only to be mistreated and eventually murdered. the adopted mother should be put right back in that jail. GOD BLESS ALL THE CHILDREN WHO HAVE FALLEN VICTIM TO SUCH HANESS CRIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with both of you 100%! I feel so sorry for children who are put into these types of situations. They didn’t ask to be put on this earth to be mistreated and killed. God Bless this child and all the others that suffer at the hands of criminal horrible people!
Brett, I 100% agree with you! It is unbelievable to me that she would adopt this child and treat her the way she did even before she left her for dead. I am aware of cases where the adoptive/foster parent is only in it for the money, this sounds like one. That poor child tried to get away from Ms. Glover and the system failed the child.
