Fire displaces Dale City family
A child playing with matches started a fire that displaced a Dale City family Saturday evening, Prince William County Fire and Rescue officials said. The child was playing in the master bedroom of a single-family home at 14305 Bremerton Drive when a fire started, Prince William County Fire and Rescue spokesman Randy Earl said.
The child apparently started a fire in the master bedroom and then “went downstairs and didn’t tell anyone,” Earl said.
A few minutes later the family smelled smoke.
“By that time, the fire had gotten out of control and they had to call the fire department,” Earl said.
The fire displaced the family, including two adults and two children, Earl said. The Prince William Red Cross is providing the family housing and a chaplain is also providing them support, Earl said.
The fire caused “extensive damage” to the house, Earl said. The exact amount of damage was not known Saturday evening, but Earl estimated that it was over $100,000.
By 6:30 p.m., traffic was blocked off at the intersection of Bradford Street and Birchdale Avenue and smoke was billowing out of the house’s roof.
As of 7 p.m., the fire had been suppressed, Earl said.
No one was injured.

Wow, this is really hard to believe. I grew up in that house. My family and I lived there for over 20 years. My mother sold the home in July 2004. It is very sad to hear about what happened. My heart goes out to the new family and wish the best for them all.
