Judge upholds Loudoun ban on pit bull adoptions
Published: May 27, 2009
LEESBURG—A Loudoun County judge has upheld a policy prohibiting county-run animal shelters from offering pit bulls for public adoption.
Circuit Judge Burke F. McCahill ruled Thursday that publicly funded shelters are not required to make all breeds available for adoption.
A Norfolk-based animal rescue group and a Sterling man had sued the county in an effort to change the policy.
The Loudoun County shelters used to euthanize all abandoned pit bulls. However, since 2007, pit bulls that pass a temperament test can be transferred to rescue groups or shelters in other jurisdictions.

Judge Burke F. McCahill ... This is a very closed minded person. It has never been the pit bull that is the problem. It is ALWAYS the owner. Prosecute the owners don’t persecute the pit bull. Here is a person of authority with absolutely no concept of the problem and what needs to be done to fix it. If all his decisions are as short sided, he should be removed from the bench.
