Charges added in fatal crash
The man charged in fatal car crash that killed a 60-year-old woman and her 2-year-old grandson is now facing involuntary manslaughter.
A grand jury in Prince William Circuit Court last week indicted William John Mallory, 26, of Stafford on two counts of involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence for the Sept. 4 crash.
Mallory is scheduled to stand trial before a jury on April 5.
Police said Mallory was driving his 2004 Ford Explorer shortly before 1 a.m. when he crashed into a 2007 Saturn Ion at the intersection of Prince William Parkway and University Boulevard.
The crash forced the Saturn off the road through a fence, across a field and onto some boulders, police said at the time.
Rebecca L. Sacra, of Alexandria, 6425 Telegraph in Alexandria and her grandson Jonathan Wade-Ortiz died at the scene, police said.
The boy’s mother and Sacra’s daughter, a 43-year-old Dumfries woman, was driving the Saturn and was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The boy’s 12-year-old cousin was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said that Mallory was driving home from a Jimmy Buffet concert at Nissan Pavilion at the time of the crash.
Alcohol was a factor in the crash, police said.

They need to control the drunken animals that typically leave a Buffet concert and or they need to enforce all the laws equally.
Why is this terrible? For me, the action itself, while saddening to understand, does not elicit fear. Rather, what does frightens me is that we allow the precursory actions to continue, unabated. So, the next concert can be an equally poorly policed drunken gathering where few if any impared drivers actually get caught and removed from the roads.
Why is it tragic? Thr drunken driver is far from a great pillar of society now fallen as a victim of his own actions.
A terrible tragedy would be for everyone to ask our elected officials to ban serving alcohol at these events, and then, when they cave into the special interest rather than the better interest of their consituents, we vote them out of office.
That would be terrible as they would learn to fear the voter, and tragic as they would have brought upon their own downfall.
A terrible tragedy for all involved.
