Man pleads guilty to sexual assault of girl
A 27-year-old Gainesville man pleaded guilty in Prince William Circuit Court on Thursday to sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in April.
Jose Mauricio Hernandez Hernandez, 27, of the 13600 block of Shire Place in Gainesville, pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual battery.
Prosecutors dropped two other charges of attempted rape and taking indecent liberties with a minor.
Prosecutors said that the victim, a 10-year-old girl, went to her babysitter's house in the 13600 block of Shire Place on April 23.
Hernandez answered the door and told the girl that her babysitter was not home.
The girl called her father to pick her up and went inside the house to wait.
Hernandez took her downstairs, put on some music and asked her if she wanted to dance, prosecutors said.
The girl said she didn't want to dance, but Hernandez began dancing with her and touching her inappropriately, police and prosecutors said.
When the girl's father arrived to pick her up she told him what happened. Hernandez was arrested later that day.
Hernandez's sentencing hearing is set for Oct. 16. He faces up to 20 years in prison.
