Neighborhood news: 'Celebration of American music'

IN MANASSAS ...
Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra presents a "Celebration of American Music" concert to honor the military. Local military organizations will be represented, and there will be a complimentary reception. Brass Lite will supply music during the reception.
This free event is Saturday at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 5640 Hoadly Road. The pre-concert talk is 7:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 8 p.m.
Clothing giveaway
The Manassas City Elementary School Counselors have partnered with Manassas Baptist Church for a clothing giveaway on Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Manassas Baptist Church, 8730 Sudley Road, in the small gym in the Rock Building.
The giveaway is open to anyone in need. Organizers ask that each family limit itself to one large bag. Families are asked to donate a canned good to enter the clothing giveaway, but no one will be turned away. There is an Omni-link bus stop in front of the church for those who need transportation.
Weather with 9 News Now
On Thursday at 1:45 p.m., Mayfield Intermediate School will have a special guest: meteorologist Devon Lucie from WUSA Channel 9 News Now. They will have an exclusive showing of "Storm Chasers" for the fifth-graders and will answer weather-related questions that will be on their fifth-grade SOLs at the end of the school year.
Spaghetti dinner
There will be an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. It is sponsored by the Park West Lions Club. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children younger than 12.
There will be spaghetti with tomato sauce or meatballs, garden salad, garlic bread, cake, iced tea, coffee, or water. You can buy spaghetti sauce for $4 per quart. The community center is located at 8620 Sunnygate Drive. If you have questions, call 703-392-0077.
Community yard sale
There will be a fall community yard sale at Osbourn High School on Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon in the school's cafeteria. Vending space is $15. Reservation forms may be picked up at the school's front office or submitted online at http://www.manassas.k12.va.us/osbourn/.

Fund drive
The Manassas Volunteer Fire Company is holding its annual door-to-door fund drive. Pictures will be taken on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the station.
IN MANASSAS PARK ...
Senior lunch
The 20th Annual Senior Citizens Luncheon will be held Friday at Manassas Park Elementary School, 9298 Cougar Court. The school awards its students for demonstrating good character by allowing them to act as hosts for this luncheon.
The school implemented a character education program that focuses on the six pillars of character. The students involved in this luncheon have exhibited all of these six pillars: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
All seniors from the city of Manassas Park are invited to attend this lunch, which is sponsored by the Parent Teacher Organization. The lunch is from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Winter bazzar
There will be a winter bazaar Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Manassas Park High School Commons. Admission is $1. There will be great shopping, pictures with Santa, kids ID, treats and more. Vendors can get applications online at mpark.net/PTSO.
Bowling
Approximately two dozen non-profit organizations competed in a non-profit bowling tournament sponsored by The United Way and Williams Gas Pipeline/Transco at the Bowl America Bull Run on Balls Ford Road in Manassas. The tournament culminated a three-month effort to spur each organization to raise United Way funds to benefit local residents. As a special incentive, all funds raised, up to $5,000 per organization, will be matched by a like contribution from the Williams Foundation providing each non-profit organization with additional resources to help county residents in greatest need.
