In the opening performance of its 17th season, the NOVA Manassas Symphony Orchestra and Music Director James Villani will present "Drama and Destiny," on Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m.

The concert at Grace United Methodist Church on Wellington Road in Manassas will be highlighted by the orchestra's performance of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony in C minor.

The orchestra will also present Suites 1 and 2 from Carmen by Georges Bizet, the Overture to Nabucco by Guiseppi Verdi, and the Divertimenti for Brass and Percussion by Karel Husa.

Tickets are available at the door: $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and free for all students.

The NOVA Manassas Symphony Orchestra is an all-volunteer community service organization composed of residents of the greater Manassas area and students at Northern Virginia Community College's Manassas campus.

The orchestra exists to offer high-quality, low-cost and family-friendly orchestral experiences for the community while providing a performance outlet for area musicians.

The symphony performs four subscription concerts each season. Saturday's concert is sponsored by NOVEC.

Spring registration to begin at NVCC

Registration begins Nov. 16 for the spring semester at Northern Virginia Community College and students are encouraged to register early for the best selection of courses.

Students can secure their classes now and defer paying tuition until Dec. 18. Anyone who registers after that day must pay tuition before 5 p.m. the next business day.  The online registration system is available at http://www.nvcc.edu.  Students may get personal assistance at any of NVCC's six campuses.

NVCC's spring 16-week semester begins Jan. 11. Two eight-week sessions, starting Jan. 11 and March 15, are also available.
