Once known for its vibrant nightlife, Old Town Manassas Irish pub O'Meara's closed for good in late April.

Established in 2003, O'Meara's was located in a strip mall on Center Street next to Prince William County/Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce and sandwich shop Deli Depot.

Owner Mike O'Meara, 50, was the co-host of the "Don and Mike" syndicated radio program and currently hosts the Mike O'Meara Show on WJFK-FM.

Some of O'Meara's business neighbors were unclear as to why he closed his place but at least one noticed it was struggling. Since late March, it was only operating on Fridays and Saturdays, said Deli Depot owner Casey Becker.

Becker said this year's St. Patrick's Day—normally a "zoo"—was the worst he'd seen since the business opened five years ago.

O'Meara didn't return phone calls Tuesday.

Chamber of Commerce President Debbie Jones said her employees often had business lunches there. "We are sad they are gone," Jones said. "It was very convenient for us."

O'Meara is a part-owner of the shopping center, which includes the city of Manassas Family Services and the Recreation and Parks departments, Jones and Becker said.

Just goes to show us all that the economy is really bad.  People just aren’t getting out as much as they used to.  Gas and groceries priced like they are, who can really go out to eat anymore?  I’m surprised with all the places to eat in Manassas, that more haven’t shut down.

It was a very sleazy place to go to, being a women. Very young girls worked there in very little clothing. I’m glad to see it go!
