Public is invited to hear speaker at church

Considered by some to be an international authority on the late Pope John Paul’s II’s “theology of the body,” Christopher West will speak at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m.
West recently made headlines when he appeared on ABC’s “Nightline” in May, alleging “profound historical connections” between the late pope and Hugh Hefner.

The subject of West’s presentation will be “God, Sex and the Meaning of Life.” His appearance marks another in the church’s continuing guest speaker series, in which notable figures discuss contemporary spiritual issues.

Lorton Road exit on I-95 to close

On Oct. 8, the Virginia Department of Transportation is closing the northbound exit at mile post 163 on Interstate 95 at Lorton Road for milling and overlay work as part of the I-95 widening project.
Motorists heading for Lorton Road should use the following detour: Continue on I-95 north past Lorton Road to Exit 166B, (Newington-Fairfax County Parkway) back to I-95 south to Exit 163 (Lorton Road).

All night work takes place between 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Ebenezer offers free gospel concert

The Robert Pop Middleton male chorus will perform a gospel concert at Ebenezer Baptist Church on Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. in the Family Life Center.

BARN to host yard sale

Transitional Housing BARN Inc. will host its last monthly yard sale of the year at the Dairy Barn on Oct. 10 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Clothes are sold at $10 per bag and other items are priced individually. All proceeds of the sale benefit the homeless mothers and children at the facility.

‘A Christmas Carol’ auditions set

Vpstart Crow Productions Inc. has announced auditions for Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.”

Continuing the 2009-10 season with the Old Town Manassas holiday tradition, director Cory Eskridge Okouchi is seeking a diverse, all-age cast.

Auditions will be at the Cramer Center on Oct. 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. Callbacks will be Oct. 15.

Performances will be held Dec. 4 to 20, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.

New Cats Meow Collectibles available

Four new Cats Meow Collectibles are available at “Echoes,” the Manassas Museum store.

They illustrate Sudley Church, City of Manassas Water Tower, Battles of Manassas Anniversary and Stonewall Jackson High School.

Youth talent contest to be held Oct. 17

Yes You CAN! Young Lady Young Man will host its first talent competition Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. at Mayfield Intermediate School, 8550 Signal Hill Road, Manassas.

Singers, dancers, poets, steppers, hip-hop artists between the ages of 10 to 19 can compete.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

Ballet company to perform ‘Dracula’

The Manassas Ballet Theatre will perform “Dracula” on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. at the Metz Middle School, 9950 Wellington Road, Manassas.
