Bazaar, rummage sale
The Friends of the Manassas Senior Center invite the community to enjoy an old-fashioned bazaar and rummage sale Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center. Every item for sale is handmade by members of the center, their families or friends. Holiday decorations, baby gifts, afghans, jewelry and hand-crafted items will be featured. There will be hot dogs, with all the trimmings, and baked goods.
The center’s annual rummage sale will take place at the same time. The center is located at 9320 Mosby St. in Manassas.
Honoring God, country
The Bull Run Troubadours (Barbershop Chorus and Quartets), the Prince William County chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, will present music honoring God and country Nov. 7 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 5640 Hoadly Road, Manassas. Two performances will be held, one from 2 to 4 p.m. and the other from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is $10 per person. Seniors and students are $8 per person.
The performance will honor those who served in past wars, or are presently serving their country in present conflicts. A group from the Wounded Warriors at Quantico Marine Base is expected to be present. Proceeds will benefit the church’s kitchen fund. College Discovery Day
Stratford University will open its doors to high school seniors to give them the opportunity to walk in the shoes of a Stratford student for a day.
The second open house will take place Nov. 14 at Stratford’s main campus in Falls Church.
Students can choose to sit in on classes in the school of business administration, computer information systems, health sciences, nursing or culinary arts and hospitality.
The interactive event will give students the opportunity to experience what it is like to be a Stratford student. Stratford’s College Discovery Day is free and open exclusively to high school seniors. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and student activities start at 9:30 a.m. in each program. Railroad club’s monthly open house
The Prince William Model Railroad Club will hold its monthly open house Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Quantico Depot, 550 Railroad St.
PWMRC is a non-profit organization dedicated to the history of RRs, fellowship and fun of model trains for young and old, education and hands-on hobby training and the promotion of railroad safety awareness.
Their model train layout is 600 square feet of HO scale model trains/scenery. “Thomas the Tank” models will be available for kids to run.

Lucky Reader
Lucky Reader Week is Nov. 8 through Nov. 14 at the Prince William Public Library System. Young library patrons from ages 2 through 12 will have a chance to win a small prize when checking out children’s materials. When a library patron checks out a “lucky book” that has been pre-selected by the librarian, the computers at the checkout desk will report that the patron is a “Lucky Reader.” You can check out the Prince William Public Library Web site at http://www.pwcgov.org/library.
A book chat
Chinn Park Chats will discuss James McBride’s “The Color of Water: A Black Man’s Tribute to his White Mother” on Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at Chin Par Regional Library. Join the book club’s chat about this tribute to a hardworking single mother who raised 12 successful children.
