White elephant, auctions
Bull Run Women's Connection will hold "One Man's Junk is Another Man's Treasure" on Nov. 9. From 9 to 9:30 a.m., there will be a silent auction, a white elephant and baked goods. After 11 a.m., items may be purchased. From 9:30 to 11 a.m., there will be a live auction and a brunch. The cost is $14.
The event will be held at Stonewall Golf Club, 15601 Turtle Point Drive, Gainesville.
Speaker Nancy Marargle will share the experience of her daughter's auto accident.

College Night
On Nov. 9 from 6:30 to 9 p.m., three Northern Virginia Community College campuses will present College Night in Virginia, a free event that provides college planning advice. The seminar is open to everyone, no matter which colleges they are considering. Attendees can register to win one of the $500 scholarships that will be awarded by a drawing at each location.
College Night will begin at 6:30 p.m. with free pizza and soda. Presentations include choosing the right college or program, understanding the financial aid process, finding scholarships, and learning about the importance of completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. College Night will take place at NVCC's Alexandria, Annandale and Woodbridge campuses.

Beta Tau
Beta Tau, the Woodbridge Chapter of ESA International, a women's service organization providing support for local, state and national charities, will hold this month's business meeting on Nov. 9 at noon in Stafford. For more, contact membership director Jane Shamblin at 540-899-9876.
Seniors' holiday luncheon registration
Registration begins Nov. 9 for the annual Senior Citizens Holiday Celebration on Dec. 3 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The lunch takes place in the cafeteria at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College. Guests will be treated to lunch, music and a visit from Santa Claus.
The event is free but reservations are required since space is limited. Seniors should call 703-257-6558 starting Nov. 9 to reserve no more than four spots per phone call. This luncheon is made possible through the generous support of local businesses and the community. Anyone wishing to contribute toward the event should call Marya Johnson at 703-530-8243. All donations will be acknowledged in the event program.

Visit Chinn Park Regional Library on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. for an informative program on deterring, detecting and defending yourself against identity theft. Discover ways to protect your good name and prevent identity theft from happening to you.

NBA Fitness Challenge
Chinn Aquatics and Fitness Center will host the NBA Fitness Challenge, a basketball-themed fitness competition Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The top participants will win an all-expense paid trip to the NBA All-Star Game in Dallas.
The NBA Fitness Challenge is open to children ages 5 to 14. The challenge tests their speed, strength and agility as they run, jump and pass their way through a timed fitness course. The highest-scoring participants from each age category will have the opportunity to advance to the regional competition. Regional winners will go to national finals at the NBA All-Star Games 2010 in Dallas this February.

Library book sale
The Friends of Potomac Library will hold a book sale Nov. 13 through Nov.15. Sale hours on Friday and Saturday are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Sunday, also known as bargain day, the sale is open from noon to 2 p.m. Materials available for purchase include cookbooks, paperbacks, novels, magazines, recordings and other items. Proceeds support programs at the library. Hardback books sell for $1, paperbacks cost 50 cents, and magazines are priced at 25 cents an issue. The sale also features encyclopedias and other reference books for sale at special prices.
On Sunday, all the books you can fit in a brown paper grocery bag will cost only $1. The sale will be held in the Community Room of the Potomac Community Library.
