A Woodbridge man was killed at 2:42 a.m. Thursday when he crashed his car into the back of a tractor-trailer in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 just north of the Lorton exit.

Witnesses told police they saw a 2003 Hyundai traveling “at a high rate of speed” before it crashed into the semi and ended up underneath the commercial vehicle, stated a state police press release.

Tomell L. Grady, 26, the driver of the Hyundai, was entrapped in the wreckage and died at the scene,  the release stated.

The driver of the tractor-trailer and a passenger were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The accident caused the closure of three northbound lanes, and traffic was diverted th the High Occupancy Vehicle lanes. All lanes were reopened by 5:30 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation, the release stated.
