WOODBRIDGE SENIORS: Have a happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! If you’re traveling, may you have good weather and driving conditions. I would ask that while you’re saying grace don’t forget to ask for a blessing for our military personnel around the world.

Most of the time my family has the traditional Thanksgiving dinner, but usually on another day. Since my kids were married and had their spouse’s families in the picture, we have opted to have our holiday meals on an alternate day. It just makes it easier on the kids. They don’t have to eat two big meals in one day. We try to pick a weekend day so everyone can make it.

This year the kids wanted to do something different at our house so we are having a clam-bake dinner, which, according to history, is actually closer to what the first Pilgrims were eating. We will have shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams, salmon, baby back ribs, kielbasa with fried onions and peppers, corn on the cob, potatoes, hush puppies, French bread and fruit tarts, apple pie and whatever else the kids bring for dessert. Of course all the condiments are a given. Most of the above foods are going to be cooked in my daughter Launa’s turkey fryer, which can double as a steamer. Hopefully I will be able to write next week’s column after all this.

Inclement weather policy
Just to review the senior center inclement weather policy: When Prince William County Public Schools are closed due to snow, ice and bad weather, the senior center is closed. If county schools are delayed, we are open.

No meals are served in either the congregate nutrition program at the senior center or on our Meals on Wheels routes when the senior center is closed due to inclement weather.

Genealogy meetings canceled
Due to holiday schedules, we are canceling the Nov. 24 and Dec. 29 genealogy meetings. Hope to see you all on the Jan. 26 at 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Be sure and bring one of your relics to share with the group.
