WWII living history coming next month to Brentsville
Published: September 17, 2009
Manassas has its Civil War history, and Dumfries its Revolutionary-era roots, but Brentsville will be all about World War II next month.
Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre will host Allied and Axis living historians Oct. 3 and 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Prince William County's historic preservation department announced this week.
The free event, which will be held rain or shine, aims to show an "up-close" look at what life was like for the military and civilians during WWII, according to the historic preservation division of the county's public works department.
Those who come to Brentsville can learn about life during the 1940s, including jobs and the living quarters and equipment used during the war.
A collection of original WWII artifacts will be displayed in the One Room Schoolhouse, and several demonstrations are scheduled for throughout both days.
Brentsville was Prince William's county seat from 1822 to 1893 and was the political and social center of the locality.
The Historic Centre consists of five structures and a mile-long nature trail on 24 acres of parkland. It's lo-cated at 12229 Bristow Road.
