For the fifth year, Victory Elementary School will host a fundraising Fall Festival, and the PTO welcomes families to come out for an evening of fun.

Proceeds will help Victory bring more Promethean Boards to classrooms, enhancing learning through interactive technology. Promethean Boards enable anything that can be seen or done on a computer screen to be projected onto an interactive whiteboard.

Visit booths to purchase food, baked goods and school spirit wear. Enjoy indoor and outdoor activities including a stuffed animal walk, games, sack race, hair painting, face painting and temporary tattoos. A silent auction featuring items from local vendors and business owners will give parents the chance to shop early for the holidays.

While the kids traditionally have lots of favorites, Hope Nugent, event fundraising chair, said, “Everyone loves the hair-painting and air-brushed tattoos.”

Nugent said the doughnut bob is also popular. At the bob, students, with arms behind their backs, reach up with their mouths for doughnuts suspended from a string. The one who eats the most of his or her doughnut wins a prize.

More than one student has said eating a doughnut on a string is harder than it looks.

New this year will be a table for a pumpkin decorating contest where students can paint, carve or use stickers to create unique jack-o-lanterns.

The local fire department, Station 25, is among the list of invited guests, as are characters from May’s Masquerade. Costumed characters from various popular, animated cartoons and television shows will circulate through the crowd and be available for photos.

“The Fall Festival is always a great event, filled with children laughing, dancing and competing in fun activities,” said Sue Gross, assistant principal. “You can see really strange green and purple hair, tattoos and face paintings, and chocolate smeared grins.

“What a night ... can’t wait for my orange hairdo!”

The Fall Festival has been successful for four consecutive years, Nugent said. Funds generated in the past have been used to fill in where budget cuts have been made, providing monies for all kinds of items including classroom supplies.

The festival will be held Friday, Oct. 23 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Victory Elementary School, 12001 Tygart Lake Dr., Bristow. There is no admission fee; however, tickets will be sold for use at each booth. Booth costs range between 50 cents for a game or activity to $16 for a pizza meal-deal which will include a large Papa John’s pizza and four drinks.

Nugent said there will be other fundraisers this year, including basket bingo, original works art and entertainment book sales.
