Learn from the Masters

Novice horticulturalists can learn the best way to plant and maintain trees and shrubs Saturday at the Benedictine Monastery’s Teaching Garden in Bristow.

The Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Prince William Master Gardeners will hold a class from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on the subject.

Master Gardener volunteers and representatives from P&H Nursery will talk about boxwood care and maintenance and tree-planting techniques.

A children’s program will be held at the same time on “Looking at Leaves.”

The Teaching Garden began as a place in which to grow fresh produce for the Plant a Row for the Hungry project and where the Master Gardeners could teach homeowners how to grow vegetables.

The spot at the monastery on Linton Hall Road features low-maintenance gardening techniques that homeowners can implement in their own gardens. It also contains plants that grow well locally.
