The Quantico Yacht Club will end the 2009 sailing season with a Potomac River race from Quantico on Saturday.

The 55th annual Frostbite Regatta will be an excellent opportunity for the skippers and crew to have something to talk about over the winter and whet their appetites for next year.

The regatta begins at 11 a.m. and costs $20.

After the race, the Quantico Yacht Club invites all crews to return to the clubhouse for a homemade chili cook-off, burgers and hot dogs, as well as potluck with dishes to share.

The race committee will lead an after-race wash-up to discuss what the crews did right and what they should have done differently as well as to present awards.

The Quantico Yacht Club invites first-time racers and all cruisers to participate.

New this year to the Frostbite: The regatta will also run a one-design race for the local day-sailors. The goal is to get as many boats off the dock as possible and have a fun day on the water. Second only to safety, getting pictures of boats under sail with their crews will be high priority.

The club invites all to come out, have some fun and get sailing.

Visit http://www.quanticoyc .org for more information or e-mail to RSVP.

All proceeds go to the race awards, dinner and future race activities.

The Quantico Yacht Club is an incorporated, non-profit, self-sustaining, private organization operating as authorized by the commander of the Quantico Marine Corps base.

Ramon William is the racing rear commodore for the Quantico Yacht Club.
