Celebrate local history
This summer, make a point to experience the history of our communities. Tours at three Prince William County-owned historic properties are available Fridays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Special events also will run throughout the season.
One of these destinations is the Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre, where you can explore the grounds of one of Prince William's original town centers.
You'll see the courthouse where just and not-so-just decisions were handed down, the jailhouse (which is reported to be haunted), a fully restored early church, a schoolhouse, and refurbished log home. The site is at 12229 Bristow Road.
The county's valuable historic treasures are cared for and managed by the Historic Preservation Division within the Department of Public Works. The division is responsible for historic properties, landscapes and cultural collections.
To discover more of Prince William's history or to plan a visit, call 703-792-4754 or e-mail historicpreserva-tion@pwc
