State police release dashboard video of carjacking culprit
State police today released a brief dashboard video clip of the man who carjacked and kidnapped a Gainesville woman in the parking lot of a Target last week.
In the 10-second clip, the culprit is seen running from the victim’s car after a chase from Gainesville to Maryland ended in a multi-vehicle crash.
Earlier this week, state police released a composite sketch of the man and asked anyone with information about the Sept. 17 incident to call them.
The man is black with a light-skinned complexion, about 25 to 30 years-old, six foot tall, with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a long-sleeved, light-colored dress shirt, khaki pants with white socks and black shoes. He was also wearing a blue knit cap with a white stripe across it.
The carjacking happened about 9 p.m. as the victim was walking to her car. Police say the gunman approached and forced her to get inside.
A short time later, Trooper A.L. McInnes spotted the victim’s vehicle, a 2009 Dodge Journey, as it was traveling on Interstate 495 south and before it crossed the Woodrow Wilson Bridge into Prince George’s County, Md. The car got off the interstate and pulled into the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant, before eventually losing control of the vehicle – striking a concrete median and crashing.
The culprit ran away on foot and police were unable to find him. The victim was treated for minor injuries.
State police are asking anyone who may have been in the area, or who may recognize the man, to call them at 703-803-0026.
